[Serious] My car was STOLEN out my driveway today

Man, it sucks but I am glad no one got hurt. I made the mistake of warming it up, running back in to get my lunch and my car was GONE!!

I stood there in disbelief for a moment but then called the police and my insurance company. The car was a 1997 Toyota Camry with high miles on it and needed some serious brake work. I didn't have comprehensive coverage because of the age of the car and the shape it was in. It is an inconvenience but hey, Life Happens and you roll with the punches.

Anyhoo, I am counting my blessings because it could have been worse. God is good all the time and today, Murphy's Law decided to pay me a visit.

Do you live in a neighborhood where this is frequent, or do you just have a lot of bad luck there?

Sorry for your loss

Camry's are one of the most stolen cars. They are worth a fortune in parts. It probably has engine, electronics, wheels, body panels already stripped off.

Unfortunately, it has become more frequent. It died down for a while. However, as evident today, it is still ever present.

I am pretty much giving up that the police will find it in tact. I am already looking at my next car.

Comprehensive coverage is so cheap, at least on my policy. It has paid off several times due to tree limb damage and rock damage to windshield, etc. I even have it with a $0 deductible and it runs me about $60/year on my Ford Escort. It was only about $70/year on my 2000 Oldsmobile.

Even though I have to park on the street now in my midtown neighborhood, I've luckily had no problems, and none to the other residents in the area. It used to be bad, I heard, but the Midtown-Ponce security patrol has really helped get rid of much of the problem.

Before purchasing insurance on my next car, I will check the KBB and Edmunds' value on the car so I can be better informed on the value of the car in getting comprehensive coverage.

In this case, it may have worked out by not having it as GEICO asked me if the key was in the ignition (yes). So, they don't have to pay anything to me but now I have the luxury of going through the pre-owned car process all over again. Oh joy! Lol.

Wow fatman that sucks! Gotta watch out when warming up cars, especially in Gerogia where in most places its illegal to leave your car running with you not in it. Insurance can always get out on that fact that you were breaking the law.

You still in south fulton/Union city ? Thats one of the reasons I left Union City, when my wife is defending 12 yr olds against gangs of teenage boys and getting threatened to get shot, well its time to go...

Yeah, I am still in Union City. Actually, there was a huge fight that started in front of my house yesterday with kids from another neighborhood and kids in my neighborhood.

If I could move, I would be gone! We were one of the first families in this section of the neighborhood. Now 3 years later (to the day), my car was stolen, fights breaking out and homes are getting broken in to.

Actually, when I went to rent a car yesterday, the agent told me Union City is looking to pass a law that protects insurance companies from replacing your car if it is stolen while idling. I cannot disagree with this because I let my guard down and got hit.

Yep, you definitely cant leave a car idling anymore like you used to.

I understand what your saying about moving, we made it just under 2 years in Union City and decided it was time to go. I remember talking to you on here about it when you were looking at places. Dunno where you work but I found moving to Villa Rica an economical alternative despite my commute to Vinings.

Of course I dunno how easy it would be to sell and move in the current market...

Wow, I had no idea the 'burbs like Union City were that bad. A friend who used to live in Lilburn has told me of similar situations out there. He bought in a nice neighborhood but over a few years it got seedier and seedier and became unsafe and uncomfortable to remain there. Luckily he got out before the housing slump and was able to find a neighborhood ITP that wasn't overpriced but still comfortable and safe with a good neighborhood "unity".

I lived in Douglasville for about 6 years, until 2005, and never had any problems in my neighborhood there. But after a breakup, I just felt better, as a single guy, moving back to midtown Atlanta.
