Internet with No TV?

Does anyone know if there are plans (or ways to get) U-Verse Internet without subscribing to the TV service?

I am not interested in the TV service at all, the HD limitation and only 4 feeds total will not work for me. But I really would like better Internet service than I have now. Cable is not an option (doesn't exist in my neighborhood) and ATT says that their regular DSL service is not available at my address but U-verse is. So I would not want to pay for the TV service (and not use it) just to get the Internet.

Thanks,
Dave

I wanted to do that too but found out in order to get the faster internet you at least have to order both tv and internet. I got the 10/1.5 and it works well but I do not do internet gaming. The first month is free so I would recommend ordering both then on the last day of the free trial cancel the tv and keep the internet. When I called customer service I was told that is possible and I have read of others doing the same thing on this board.

So to sign up you need to order both, but you can cancel the TV later and just keep the internet?

I just got installed last Saturday after a month wait to get the service. When I called to sign up the customer service rep said that I could keep the internet after the 30days and drop the TV. They would send boxes for the STBs after I cancelled the video service.

Then what will be your new monthly cost for just the internet service?

So the same price as the DSL package. But you get closer to your speed with U-verse I understand?

There you go.

I can't wait to get it by me. I like DISH but for the money seems U-Verse is the way to go.

Comtemplating if I should give up my grandfathered static 6Mb/608Kb for U-verse 10Mb/1.5Mb. 608Kb up is too limiting and slow for things such as RDP back to home. Anyone gone this route and can provide input on the experience, before and after throughput and latency?

Latency will be more with U-verse since all of us are on interleave for the moment.

My 10/1.5 yield speed tests of 9600 down and 1490 up.

They also have 6/1, 3/1 and 1.5/1 speeds. The 1 meg upload you get about 950 to 980.

Not sure if you know but ATT changed the profile for the 6meg package and you can get 768 up now for sync. Which would get you 650ish for upload.

If regular AT&T ADSL is not available, then you are supposed to be able to order only U-Verse internet if you so desire. The order both TV and Internet, then cancel the TV portion is the route to go if you are in a regular DSL area. But in non-ADSL areas, you are supposed to be able to order U-Verse Internet without U-Verse TV.

I don't think that's the case. I think you have to order both even if you are in an area that doesn't have DSL. After the 30 days cancel the TV as you stated.

Uverseuser forum has had people state that.

Granted, I am a young Prem Tech in training, but either one of my managers or one of my trainers definitely said internet-only orders exist, and in some of our training materials it does state that internet-only is a possible order, and I have also heard that in non-ADSL serviced areas, that you can order U-Verse internet without U-Verse TV.

Now just being me, if you get that first month free, why not give the TV a shot? But if you really just want the internet and are in a no-DSL area, you should be able to order U-Verse internet unbundled from U-Verse TV. Try giving 800-ATT-2020 a call and see what happens. But make sure the CSR knows you cannot get regular DSL internet are you address -- only U-Verse services.

This guy says when he ordered that since he was in a no-DSL area, the CSR stated he was able to order internet only.

I think the problem is ATT doesn't have standards across the board for U-Verse installs. The website is kind of helpful but really needs to be redone stating things like this. Another big issue is installs, certain areas you get 3 TV runs and 1 PC free. Others they charge you for any run.

As a whole ATT should set a standard and not by region. Some thing else is U-Voice like here in IL we don't have it yet. Once it rolls out according to others that have had U-verse then U-voice became an option. ATT is wanting to charge a $95 install fee that's a way to put a sour taste in people's mouths.

As whole U-verse is a great concept but ATT needs to get some things straight and standardized as a company whole IMO.

I was really hoping AT&T U-verse would have static plans and more speed options so I might consider relocating to Verizon FIOS territory. For reliability I would prefer fiber versus copper to the premise as I've personally experienced the EMI sensitivity of ADSL and it sounds VDSL is even worse.

I live in a Uverse only area (no DSL possible). At first, AT&T was going to set me up with DSL. I was passed around for 2 weeks as tech support, ordering, provisioning, kept trying to get my DSL setup. Finally I happened to get transfered to the Uverse department (after being told repeatedly that you can't get internet unless you get TV). The Uverse department laughed stating I could never get DSL in the area I am in, and that there is no bundling requirement for TV and Internet. She stated that this has been an ongoing problem for "old" AT&T to get the info out to their other departments.

I am a happy camper with 10/1.5 Uverse internet (no TV!), and paying just $55/month (normal rate for that speed). Now what would be nice is if they allowed me to use the whole 25Mbps for internet, since I am not getting TV. I'd pay $100/month for that.

So my suggestion? Asked to be transfered to the UVerse department.
