| Stopping spam.
Everyone complains about spam. But as soon as their mail server enforces the rules laid down for mail servers to help with the proble, they start crying.
Go to the people whose mail is being blocked, tell them to follow the RFC's issued for mail servers and their mail will come through just fine.
If they can't take the responsibility to setup their server correctly, they shouldn't set one up! |

| It's not blind defense. I happen to manage three mail servers hosting several domains. I also manage DNS for those domains. I simply know how the system works, I have read the RFC's, and you can bet you will see other large mail providers start enforcing the RFC's in the same fashion.
I did not make the rules but I do try to follow them.
Have you read any of the RFC's regarding mail servers?
You can bash me and Yahoo and anyone else. They are just doing their job. |

Splain me this then:
I have two ISPs, and one hosting company with POP mailboxes at each. Two of the ISPs are Covad resellers, one is a Qwest reseller.
The mailboxes on the Qwest hosted ISPs servers, where my domain/e-mail server are hosted, are rejecting all mail from all sources; i.e., the servers are bouncing all e-mail, period, including e-mail sent to my hosting company. All the e-mail servers at my hosting company are set up properly, and have been functioning properly for over a year. Now, they are fucked.
The mailboxes at one of the other ISPs (Covad ADSL reseller) is accepting all mail, and labeling some as SPAM, some as legitimate, and most e-mails are sorted correctly. No e-mail is being bounced as far as I can tell. This account has been functioning properly for five years or more. I haven't logged into the webmail during the last five days at this ISP to check, so I may be wrong.
The other ISP is an AT&T reseller, as well as a Covad reseller. My agreement with the ISP is for Covad ADSL service. That mailbox used to filter correctly with nary a miss; letting all legitimate e-mail through to my inbox, and correctly blocking all SPAM sending it to a SPAM folder on the server. I would clean the SPAM folder out regularly by logging into webmail. However, this ISP, over the last five days or so has completely fucked up all filtering, labeling and sending EVERY incoming e-mail to the SPAM folder. I have logged into webmail and attempted to retrain the SPAM filter by white-listing the non-SPAM e-mail, and deleting the true SPAM e-mail. This ISPs filters have responded by continuing to reject all e-mail as SPAM, white-listed, or not. This e-mail had been functioning properly for five years or more.
Something doesn't smell right. Does this nonsense have anything to do with AT&T copyright filtering implementations, the NSA's spying/filtering internet traffic, or is it just a bunch of FUCKED-UP ASSHOLES inadvertantly laying waste to small businesses who are dependent upon e-mail for their livelihood?
I used to get one or two SPAM e-mails delivered per day, along with a ton of legitimate business e-mail. Now, I get a few more SPAM e-mails, and NO BUSINESS E-MAIL!!!!! |

| reply to bjbrock Considering that today, AT&T officially admitted they screwed up a maintenance operation over the weekend, and caused this mess, I rest my case.
Boy am I glad you aren't anywhere near any of my systems... -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |
