George,
Looks like the news2.dslx farm is authenticating me while news.dslx is not. Will this be a permanent fix, meaning you guys will be running two farms from this point on, or is this just temporary?
Also, any word on when the IP restriction is removed so we can use our other dslx accounts simultaneously from one IP, like the problem geonap reported? (»Re: Newsgroup Server problem - 502 error, too many connections) |

| We anticipate that the news server provider will have the IP limit restriction removed by the end of the month. It is something built into their system that they have to change for us. Though other large ISPs have asked for it we were able to get it pushed up on the development schedule. I can't guarantee the time frame, but should be soon.
The two farms will remain active as long as needed.

| reply to FordBronco Wonderful... now I can't download anything (as of today, April 7)... even in the fits and spurts I was getting, because of the "502 error"... as far as I can tell with the version of agent I have you can only have one connection, and DSLX news server won't even let me have that. Please put things back the way they were... this "end of the month stuff" is not going to cut it unless we get a refund for the service we couldn't use. If your half of your cable channels were out for three weeks, wouldn't you expect the same?
-yes, I've restarted everything -yes, I've reset my modem -yes, I've renewed my IP -yes, this is a new modem -yes, I only have one Agent connected to news2.dslextreme.com -yes, this is starting to be a real pain |

I think a refund or similar is not appropriate.
Also forgot to update: I didnt had any more problems with my Newsservice since my last post. |

| Well, that's fine... whether they are or are not going to provide newsgroup services is their business perogative, but this really should be at the top of the contract, not buried on a support page. This knowledge can help someone who is thinking about using their services or staying with them make a more informed decision. |

| reply to dslx_gm Thanks for the response George.
Things looked good for a bit, I was able to catch up on some of my headers, then things got screwy again. Just let us know when things are back to normal with the newservers. It's just too much time and trouble to keep checking and rechecking.
FYI, I've been a customer of yours since 2001, and this is the very first time i've had a problem with your service. I'm confident you guys will fix everything within a reasonable timeframe. |

DSLX is not making a huge profit on residential DSL service, and you want them to pour what litlte resource they have into a complimentary service, rather than pouring into their business customers who pay them a higher profit? I don't think so homie. Have you seen the newsgroups from other big ISPs such as AT&T, Cox, Time Warner? You dump DSLX and go with what? SBC?
Find me another ISP with the same price and BETTER newsgroup service, then perhaps I'm more inclined to see your point. You can't can you.
I'm just as annoyed as most guys in here who can't get their headers or use more than 3 accounts to download, but you won't find me playing the petty blame game or the "I'm considering jumping to another ISP" just because of this glitch. For what value DSLX has given me over the years, I won't mind giving them guys the time to work it out. I ain't about to jump ship and then ask myself if I made a mistake. Nope, I did plenty of ship jumping 8-9 years ago, SBC, Cox, done them all.. until I settled on DSLX and finally found good valued ISP (around southern CA). You don't call it a divorce or even hint of one.. on a minor setback. |

| Earthlink HAD a good service. Until they started adding caps and what not. Now I dont know if they even have newsgroup service. But yes, DSLExtreme gets my business precisely for that fact, the little tidbits like newsgroup service and stuff. Has the multiple IP issue been resolved? |

| Hi shwei -
What do you currently have the time out limit set to. I noticed that some clients like grab it set the time out pretty low. I would recommend increasing the time out and see if that helps.

| It is set to 15 minutes. Should the time out be increased?
I get this error message right after the newsgroup application has started. I haven't had the pleasure of starting with 2 connections yet; it has been only 1 connection for me since last week.
Thanks. |

| reply to dslx_gm I called the tech support today regarding this issue. I was on the phone for about 30 minutes; most of the time was spent on hold. I talked to a tech and he asked me to give him a sec to "look some stuff up". But then I heard a "click" on the other end... Yap, back to square 1. My call was disconnected. Sigh...
Now I am not sure what's the best approach to resolve this newsgroup issue. |

| reply to shwei What program are you using? Can you try gracefully closing the program so that it properly terminates your connection?
From there use the command prompt to test the connection.
telnet news.dslextreme.com 119 AUTHINFO USER yourusername@dslextreme.com AUTHINFO PASS yourpassword
After you have successfully opened one connection, open another command window and repeat the same steps.

I tried to connect to the newsgroup server again today and it seems to be working now. So what has changed to make it work? |
