1 edit | 3Web in Ontario - prices/speeds?
I'm not actually looking into signing up with 3web (yet) but was wondering what services they offer here in the GTA and in Ontario? I'd like to have a firm grasp of the ISP options there are now.
I know I could look at their site but it says the service is up to 5Mbps but someone else told me it was 7Mbps so I'm looking for some confirmation. |

As it is, they're only offering DSL services which will give you a 5 Mbps limit. |

Do they not run on their own network in some parts now? I thought I may have read somewhere that this was true. |

| Not to my knowledge! What you may have seen is that up until about a year ago, 3web did not always have a presence at Rogers head-ends (phubs), so in those places, 3web customers were essentially Rogers customers with a 3web assigned IP address.
But at no point has 3web actually offered their own cable internet service all the way to the home. The incumbent cable operator always provides last mile services. |

Trace complete.
Can anyone determine who that second IP refers to?
Edit: Don't mind the pings, I have BT running. |

| reply to Reimer Does 3Web cable service implement traffic filtering, or suffer from traffic filtering implemented by Rogers?
Rogers has reportedly started interfering with all encrypted traffic, including for VPN access. Is 3Web known to have the same issue?
(any DSL service will be subject to Nexxia's blocking of encrypted traffic...) |

(any DSL service will be subject to Nexxia's blocking of encrypted traffic...) My CIA connection that I have is not throttled in any way. Rogers technically can throttle, but does not appear to have done so.

I don't use BT, and don't fully understand it. I know when I d/l something like a game patch, or upload something to youtube for instance, I don't really have a complaint as it seems reasonably quick? Am I missing something... or is it my speeds are just pretty good?

1 edit | Cable tends to be go/nogo ... as opposed to degraded performance when you get poor signal strength or high noise ingress.
Low signal strength depends on many things, and bear in mind that your TVs are going to get even lower strength after a cable modem is installed. But there are usually ways to resolve these problems on the cable operators part. |
