kudos:3 | Re: Canadian Bandwidth Bell Canada owns the majority of the lines in eastern Canada. They own the copper infrastructure, which other ISPs like Teksavvy rent access to. They are forced to share these lines by the government. All the independent ISPs have their own bandwidth, routers, servers etc that they have from other companies.

While this clearly will cost some $$ for them to upgrade, if nothing is resolved Teksavvy (and others) might want to consider investing more in their infrastructure to provide a differentiated service.

Teksavvy's users in the west (BC and Alberta) do not have that problem as the telco is Telus. | |

No... but this is about Ontario/Quebec primarily where about 80% of the ADSL offering is via Bell Canada - it's the largest ILEC in Ontario/Quebec so a number of ISP's get a wholesale "last mile" from them. Bandwidth itself (meaning transit bandwidth) is available from dozens of sources - but the ADSL loop itself is primarily Bell Canada except in other ILEC areas and those areas with CLEC's present... | |
