I had this problem a while back. I fixed it by going to control panel > java > temporary internet files > settings.
Delete all files and uncheck [ ] keep temporary files on my computer.
Control Panel > add and remove > removed all previous installs of java. (leaving only the latest)
Then internet options > Browsing history > settings > view objects: There were three java entries with an exclamation and one without. Those are my Prime tests of actually line vs net congestion, is Broadstar here and ATT/BS own test in Miami, again both right at the end of the extension cord.... the other tests are only gauges of what congestion to certain points at the moment might be.

Update:

I've shot off a couple of emails, which I've already received replies to (thank you Rafael & Scott! You guys rock) :)

...and I believe this is going to be resolved soon.

1a. Are you using a personal firewall?

2. Can you use someone else internet connection with Comcast to see if you and they have the same problem?

I know #1 assumes a problem with the pc and #2 assumes a problem with you your mode/router if it is a combo deal.

But at this point, it doesn't seem to be a Comcast problem and it would be good to eliminate your pc and perhaps the modem your using.

Your right and that's a good point. It didn't register that your post was a tracert when I first looked at it. But I don't think it is a Comcast problem.

Could there be a locally installed firewall that has ip black listed or blocked some way? (just throwing out an idea)

Tracert and ping can time out at switches and routers because the device is set to not to respond to icmp or the device has a lot of traffic and icmp being a low level protocol it gets dropped. Either one of the scenarios will still allow access, maybe less access on the heavily congested device but still allows traffic, to and from the destination.

We have determined that the link and is up and works ok. So, perhaps we can drop back and punt and look at the pc.

LIL, if you could, clear your temp files from Internet Explorer. Do a start / run / %temp% and clear all your temporary files. Reboot and try to access the web site again.

The snippet is mine and you're stopping at 66.165.181.202 so my first guess would be that the hosting provider of the server is blocking your subnet probably because of some action they determined was a threat to their infrastructure.

Try to change your IP first and see if that helps. If not, you want to try and figure out who to contact that hosts it and see if they will unblock your subnet.

I can tracert from way up north ok.

Did you get a different IP when you direct connected? If your PC mac was cloned on the router you probably kept the same IP.

Nope..tried both..same issue.

Even tried direct connect from 'puter to modem (eliminated the router from the equation)

It has to be Comcast, no? :huh:

I have found, that changing my mac address to obtain a different ip puts me on a different subnet.
