Re: Newsgroup Server problem - 502 error, too many connections

It does not work!

I talked with another tech support this morning, and he also had the same problem. So it is replicable. He asked me to wait until tomorrow night: 48 hours, since it is still being worked on. I told him the 24-48 hour period is for DNS propagation. This is an authentication problem.

We confirmed with the third party news provider that it is setup for 2 connections. We have not been able to replicate the issue. If you attempt to authenticate with a third connection you are not able to. As long as your program does a clean disconnect you should be able to re-authenticate. If your program does not do a clean disconnect you would have to wait until the session is dropped. I believe it takes 15 minutes for the session to drop.

Are you not able to authenticate at all or are you not able to authenticate with more than two connections?

I cannot be authenticated at all. It kept saying "502 Too Many Connections (2 allowed)".

I shut everything down last night. Turn back on this morning and still have the same problem. I uninstalled and re-installed, still same problem.

I tested and didn't have a problem authenticating with your credentials. Are you using @dslextreme.com at the end of your username.

Yes, username@dslextreme.com!

I have been using the news server for more than 2 years. Also, it worked yesterday's morning when the new news server was switched over. Then, it stopped working about yesterday's afternoon.

Interesting!

If I telnet directly to port 119, I get through.

So, it is not an authentication problem. It is a misconfiguration somewhere!
