1 edit | Retaliation against Bell
Lets get some idea's going here.
My two personal fav's to date are
a) Human Packet shaping. Create a protest line outside BCE HQ in montreal and only allow 1 person per 30 seconds in or out of the building.
b) The screw you we'll download anyway. Have TSI host a nice 4-5 gb file on a server and have as many TSI users as possible download it @ fullspeed over and over again. (we'd need a little help from rocky to lift the 200gb caps on premium users)
Others from this thread
-> The screw with their tech support centers. Call Bell tech support and just leave your phone off the hook. Call centers will bill bell for all the incoming calls. |

@teksavvy.com
| A picket line would be good, and the idea of human packet shaping is a real good idea, but the speed of 1 person per 30 seconds? my lord, I've seen the govt'd locked out at a much slower rate of more like 1 person per 5 minutes. I've also seen people edge into picketers with bumpers too.. But i'd certainly be willing to help with such an event.. |

| reply to PlatooN Hi there,
I think the a) option is good. If everyone around Canada started doing it, basicially either protesting or informing customers or potential customers what Bell is actually doing to the Internet and hopefully drives up to seek others ISPs. Even with the crap going on, it's better that Bell don't get the customers.

| reply to PlatooN Funny, I almost posted a post about this ...but then ..well ..decided against it ...but anyways here we go ...
Why not start tying up their customer support lines ... sure emily is great, but get passed that and fill up their support ques. Just dial get in line and then put the phone down, probably best to do this from a land line at night, but you get the picture.
The call centers will bill them for the time |

| reply to PlatooN Hi there,
Even better yet, why not do this and see if their sales have updated on the issue. Everyone call Bell, pretend to be a new customers and ask will I get the speeds and pretend to be somehow who use Linux for classes, but I have to download it via BitTorrent. Will I download it at full speed?
...secretly record it and post it if they lie.

| reply to PlatooN Not to take the wind out of those two ideas. couple major problems
1. you can't touch other people, so how are you going to hold them back from going where they please. It's also highly illegal to block exits from a building, things escalate, people get hurt/trampled/sued. lots of reasons but the police will be called and you will be moved or arrested.
2. TS pays for the bandwidth it uses. So downloading more would make bell quite happy indeed. This would not bother them in any way shape or form. This is particularly a nasty reason to dislike what bell has done as they did not need to do it in the first place.
Sorry come up with some other ideas, like everyone calling bell around the same time of night every night for an hour and just tie up there sales department or something. Inquire about getting internet service for 30mins and then say you dont want it because they throttle teksavvy. then call in and do it again. the reps will pass the message up the ladder for you. |

The solution to the problems brought up by others is simple:
Replace the human protesters with: SKUNKS .
Yep, put many skunks near every door
With some placards that says "BELL STINKS" |

@rogers.com
| reply to PlatooN Another idea. call bell's sales department. soon we they greet say "stop throttling teksavvy" and hang up. call over and over again, you can probably get a direct number to the sales department. Since sales reps goals are based on number of calls they get. This screws them over big time. The sales reps will do the complaining for you. just 20 people doing this over and hour will have a large impact. |

| reply to PlatooN LoL - loved the human packet shaping. Very creative!
There must be ways to pull something like this off within a legal framework.
When a strike takes place, they can't block, but can't they delay, and make sure the message is passed on? |

| reply to PlatooN b) would work if we all use 5gb each.
Lets say we all download the same linux iso from a bunch of edu mirrors at the same time, if we bring bell to a crawl we then could at least acknowledge their network sucks |

| reply to anon2342134 Actually anon for your TS pays for bandwidth it uses. theres something you're missing. if they host the files on their own servers then they're not paying any bandwidth for outside transit. since its between the bell slams and their servers, bell only charges for the copper connection.. no bandwidth limits on that.. so transfer back and forth from that segment and not the outside. |

I am so glad I don't have a single bell service, now if I could only get rid of rogers. |
