| Motorola 2210 running really hot?
Just received a Motorola 2210 to replaced my broken speedstream 5100. I noticed that the Motorola 2210 is running A LOT hotter than the speedstream. It is also very discomforting when the AT&T tech told me that there are isolated instances when the modem ran too hot and melted the plastic casing. Since these were "isolated" incidents, AT&T/Motorola did not issue a recall on it.
Just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. |

| Do you have any idea just how hot it is on the case?
The 4100/4100b will run as much as 100-105 F as measured by an IR thermometer on the case right above the TI CPU in an ambient air temperature of 60-65. At that temperature level, the case doesn't feel excessively warm to the touch.
Certainly you should elevate your 2210 on some sort of "feet pedestals" (»Linksys FAQ »My router is overheating. Anything I can do?) to enhance air circulation drawn from under the modem and through it by convection, if you are concerned about the excessive temperatures. |

There is a memo that is going out to all DSL CPE techs about that very issue. It is evidently a problem and the company is trying to get the tech's input to see how prevalent it is. |

@comcast.net | Roger that. AT&T labs is investigating reports over 2210s overheating and possibly catching on fire. Only fix availale is to advise customers to use only the ac power supply provided by ATT. |

I went ahead and had my old one swapped out. The new one dissipates about the same amount of heat so I guess that's just the nature of the 2210. With fan/AC running in the room, I don't think it will be melting any time soon, but yeah, I was caught off guard how hot it was compared to my speedstream.
Since AT&T does not offer speedstream anymore, I guess the only choice of not using the Motorola 2210 is to go to Best Buy and pick up a Speedstream 4100.
btw, if you call AT&T Internet service up and tell them about the overheating issue with the 2210, they are very well aware of it. |

I solved the problem by turning it upside down and laying it on top of the PC tower which is made of plastic and its cool |
