So make sure your jobs are set to append and they will write on un-full media.

These are the defaults and can be overwritten by the settings for an individual pool. (If you select "none", then ANY tape can be overwritten, which is actually okay if you know what you're doing.)

Do you have any media pools set up? For instance, tapes 6-8 acting as a "pool" of tapes? That way, if it needs more than two, it'll go ahead and use a 3rd one. That's one option anyway. We do our backups a little differently than some people do. We backup to disk and then at the end of the week backup to a L3 tape library. The setting that I have on ours in the job setup is under "Destination" we then chose under "When this job begins" append to media, overwrite is no appendable media is avaliable.
