| More media coverage about throttling..
Guess Primus is upset about this too. Got this in my daily ITWorld newsletter:

| That's good to hear that Primus is ticked off. I thought they would stay silent, as they havent exactly been the most customer friendly in the past with regards to caps.
I would assume they have a larger DSL client base, so if they can add a little more to the fight this would be great. -- GO LEAFS GO! Don't question the authoritaaaa! |

| reply to jyeung My favorite parts of the article:
Increasing congestion is affecting the networks of all carriers across North America, including ours, he said. Like other carriers were seeking to better balance Internet traffic during peak hours so all of our customers can receive an optimum level of service.
So Bell is saying that they are not going to upgrade to meet capacity demands. Instead we will limit and degrade the service that we offer to make sure we don't incur infrastructure costs.
Second best:
Networks that have overbuilt their capacity and who therefore have no capacity constraints (and thus no need to worry about network congestion) can market their service as being a premium offering, he added. So what this says to me is: Properly managed and planned networks should be considered premium. Networks that are oversold and unable to cope with demand should be considered regular service. Gotta love corporate spin |

| reply to jyeung I keep on reading all this bullshit about peak hours. It seems bell doesn't know peak hours from a mountain peak. Peak hours are not from 4PM to 2AM. They'd be from 7PM to 9PM. Clearly the throttle boxes are not throttling by load. This is the issue where the 3rd party isp's should sue bell. |

And if it was about managing traffic dynamically, the throttling would only happen when the network hit congestion. However, the throttling is obviously preset for set hours, no matter what the network load. If tomorrow half the internet blew up, they'd still be the same. -- GO LEAFS GO! | I'm glad to see this issue getting press. This is a clear violation on bells part. The traffic they are throttling does not belong to them as per their lease agreement. It belongs to teksavvy and it shouldnt be affected in no way, shape, or form. |

| Youtube says that the video is not available. Perhaps it was pulled?
On another note, it seems that this is getting around to the media at a quick rate - this is good. All we need now is for the CRTC to make an announcement from receiving all of those e-mails/letters/calls that users have been sending/writing/making to them. |

| reply to HiVolt Yes it is preset Hivolt.I never had a slow down or anything on my connection since ultra came out.Nobody in a six block radious besides myself and 4 others have bell or a wholesaller that I can find ever had a problem. There is a 0 probobility of network overload happening at exactly 4pm est and ending at 2am everyday.Absoulutly no chance. You would have a better chance of getting hit by a bus.
If half the Internet blew up Bell would throttle 24 hours just to say they need to look after the net...
Bell has no idea what a storm they have brewing across Canada right now. They started this shit and the consumer is gonna stick it up thier ass's.We need more people reporting correct facts to the cbc, globe and mail etc about the facts. They listen to the bell spoke persons and think thats it.
Well it's wrong. The bell spokes person doesn't have a clue what your talking about and neither does the guy at bell running the department that started this. |
