Considering that most of the population has very limited choices for broadband internet: - Massive Telephone Company - Massive Cable Company - Massive Wireless Company (perhaps owned by Massive Telephone Company) The argument goes that the FCC should regulate practices because otherwise, there'd be nothing stopping every provider from doing the same- indeed, if said practices made the company money, there'd likely be little reason not to, as most people won't bother switching providers unless the violation is utterly massive. The FCC's authority over cable companies comes I believe from the Cable Act and use of regulated frequencies over coaxial cable. |
