Does Primus have their own DSLAM to serve DSL users in downtown Ottawa? |

| reply to Name primus has, they call them malcs not dslams all over ottawa. all over mtl, hamilton, windsor, kingston, etc even out west. they are really spending the money and its adsl 2 if your close enough . if your on a remote with a current dsl provider dont bother its not going to be an option. you need to be connected directly to the co and primus nees to have equipment in that co. |

| MALC is the name of the product from Zhone Technologies that they use. Probably the MALC 723.
The MALC is a class of device called a BLC or Broadband Loop Concentrator. This combines the functionality of a DSLAM and a Loop Concentrator in one unit.
We actually purchased a MALC for our lab for trials. Ended up yanking out out - the software was klunky and buggy, and the hardware was just not very impressively built. Also didn't like the fact that we had to use proprietary cables coming off the front with some really funky 50 pin connectors on them. They looked like an accident waiting to happen.
Their quality control on their cable was also pretty bad - we ordered a couple of cables, and they actually wired them differently - had to re punch them on our MDF to correct their error.
We ended up using the CALIX C7 BLC instead. |
