| Is Business DSL throttled? Does anybody know if business-line DSL is throttled (I'm talking about business PPPoE not HSA)? I'm just wondering because if it is, and if they are also throttling encrypted traffic this is going to play hell with my inter-office VPN at work during the evening hours. | |

| Teksavvy support didn't know as of last night. I don't know if anyone outside of Bell knows conclusively at this point. Nobody knows about HSA connections either--Nexxia would probably bend over backwards to break them if they became popular.
It's a reasonable educated guess, based on information posted here[1] to conclude that all PPPoE will be degraded. Bell allegedly does not consider preventing VPN access to be a big deal for business users on the grounds that no business user would want to use a VPN after office hours.
I'll take this moment to point out, again, that with Rogers disrupting encrypted traffic 24/7, it is not clear if there will be any way for VPN users to reach their networks at using any provider at any tier of service. It's not alarmist to state that Rogers and Bell traffic filtering has the potential to effectively prevent secure telecommuting in all of Ontario.
Anyone who will be effected by this needs to make sure their employers, unions, and industry associations are well informed about the problem. The Feds won't care that much about the torrent of individual complaints they're getting but they will stand up and take notice when businesses stand up and say Nexxia is unilaterally threatening Canada's economic competitiveness and national security.

| Re: Is Business DSL throttled? I saw a posting on the Sympatico forum that it is not throttled (based on one users tests). So if TekSavvy is having theirs throttled and Bell doesn't - that is even another issue - and it is a blatant discriminatory practice.
I still want Bell execs arrested for peeking into my data without a warrant though  | |

Ontario | I can definitely vouch that Bell NEXXIA accounts are not throttled. We have two NEXXIA accounts and we are able to download BTs during peak hours at full speed. | |

I haven't noticed any throttling at any of my 3 business DSL lines, or my ADSL line (but I do live in the sticks), any throttling on these lines is going to be devastating for me, probably put me out of business or require expensive Ethernet or fiber installations that are out of bell's control. | |

Business Internet High Speed Ultra ($99.95/mth)
Business Internet Optimax ($116.95/mth)
Business Internet Dedicated (varies)
Some of the access types for that third one are DSL (higher ones are copper/fibre), those may be non-PPPoE. | |

Also - do they determine whether to throttle or not based on assignment of static IP? If so, then just get a Residential one with a static ip.... I have not tested mine yet. | |

| I just asked our business DSL provider for confirmation and this was the first time they heard about Bell throttling wholesalers. The people I spoke to insisted that Bell would inform them of such a big change  I'll see what kind of answer I get from my email to , hopefully, higher ups. | |

When asked why they were moving, the company was quoted as saying "The high humidity environment of the natural locale was causing condensation issues with telecommunication equipment. 1 edit | Bell's Business DSL has to be throttled or else it becomes anti-competitive because that prevents 3rd party ISPs from offering the same business class services.
This is garnering allot of support and the 3rd party ISPs are not going to lie down and let this happen.
It is literally do or die for some of them.
If you think Bell is going to tell anyone they are wrong, the 3rd party ISPs didn't even know until they confronted them and Bell admitted it the next day. | |

I would think that they are not throttling these? As they are not GAS DSL lines, but private links directly to 151 Front St.
