| Dropping Bell!
Hi, I am planning to drop bell asap and move to TekSavvy, but I have a question or two. Currently we bundle everything with Bell and I would like to be able to drop everything! This is what we have and pay:
Telephone:
Residential Line - $18.48
Digital Bundle - Long Distance Plan - $5.00 (1000 mins/mo. to Can/US)
Network Charge - $5.95
Privacy Bundle - $17.95 (Call Display, Messaging, Call Privacy, Call Block etc)
911 emergency services - $.19
Touch Tone Services - $2.80
Total (before Taxes) - $50.37
Internet:
Modem Lease - $2.00
Bundle from Bell High Speed - $45.95
Less Digital Bundle Discount - $5.00 cr
Less Bundle from Bell High Speed - $10.00 cr
Total (before Taxes) - $32.95
Television:
Digital Standard - $31.00
Less Digital Bundle - $5.00 cr
HD Value Pack - $10.00
Digital Service Fee - $3.00
6 Themes - $25.00
Total (before Taxes) - $64.00
Total bill for month - $164.01
We've already canceled our Bell Mobility cell phone which wasn't bundled for some reason.
If I could find replacements for all of these services right now, I will call immediately.
Can I get your opinions for some options to go to for my services? I don't even care if I have to pay a bit more, as long as it's not going to Bell!!

| Without knowing your city, the best I can do is give you an estimate for a rough equivalent:
Telephone:
Line: $21.35
Long distance plan: $19.95
Features (caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, privacy): $15
Total (before tax) - $56.3
Internet:
DSL line (Premium 200GB): $29.95
Bundle discount: -$3.00
Total (before tax) - $26.95
Total (with tax, assuming you're in Quebec): $87.41
This will, of course, change depending on where you are (if in Ontario, add PST), if you have a group discount for DSL (another $3 off), if you don't use enough long distance to justify the $20/mth unlimited LD plan, etc.
TekSavvy has announced their intention to offer satellite TV service, but that's still in the planning phase. |

| Then the $21.35 price is indeed correct, but you'll need to add PST to the subtotal.
You can get a different long distance provider with TekSavvy, including Yak (no monthly fee, 3.5 cents per minute).
This can be transparently added to your phone line (as in, you simply pay 3.5 cents per minute instead of 10), so that might be a nice option if you can't justify the $20/mth (effectively $17/mth) long distance plan. If you only use 100 long distance minutes per month, for example, it'd be a significant savings. |

| Thanks Guspaz for the reply. I like to hear that TS is considering satellite tv, that's definitely an option for the future. Ok, if I was to cancel my internet and telephone and go with TS, what would be the best route to take? (ie. cancel internet first, telephone at a later date, cancel at the same time) I realize Bell has a 30 day waiting period. |

Kingston, ON | Pretty sure all you'd have to do is call TekSavvy and they'd take care of the cancellation of the phone at least. You might have to return a modem to Bell though, unless you own it. |

Yeah, cancel internet first, simply because of the Bell 30 days notice thing for internet, you'll be stuck with them for 30 days. Keep the cancelation number, then you can take your time to sign up with Teksavvy sometime in the next month because they can't give you service until Bell's is over (since you're with Bell's). |

For LD, I agree with Guspaz that Yak has a lot to offer for 3.5 cents/min, with no BS recurring fees (I use them, my last bill was $0.41 after tax). If you do a lot of LD, then TSI $19.95 LD plan would be the way to go, that would be better if you use more than 9.5 hours/month, otherwise Yak is better. As for TV, hopefully TSI will wholesale Expressvu soon too. |
