Re: DVD world?

Sure. And that'll mean the online downloads are even more disadvantaged. The reason is picture quality.

In the DVD/Blue-Ray medium, there's no incentive to over-compress the content. Once it fits in the disk, it fits in the disk. And the folks with who control the "compression knob" are the same ones who produced the movie, and they don't want it to look like crap.

Not so with online downloads. Or with, as we've seen in stories recently, digital cable (Comcast). Or with OTA broadcasters who want to do multicasting. And the "HD-lite" on DirecTV is notorious. All these media have economic incentive to squeeze things as much as possible. This may be OK for the (very) few that watch movies on the PC. But what would you rather watch on your new 60 inch plasma - a Blu-Ray disk, or some download?
