Then establish a new setup, test more, get feedback, hold official tourney?

Using a pure kill/death ratio is going to encourage some stupid gameplay styles, like setting up a turret at the final capture point and hiding behind it all game, even though it's a 3v2 game and the other player on your team is asking you to switch classes to help so it's not 3v1 almost all the time (This happened to me for several games, if you can't tell). It also means it's in your best interest to disconnect if you're outnumbered, which is bound to happen a lot when there are only 5 or fewer people on the server. This is not fun.
Have you looked at using hlstatsx? It's a very popular score tracking system for TF2, it's used on the server I play on most of the time:

It tracks a ridiculous amount of stuff, and awards points in a way that actually encourages reasonable gameplay- points given to a medic for assists, ubering someone, capturing a point, capturing the intelligence, defending a point, sapping equipment, building equipment that doesn't get blown up, that sort of thing. Points rewarded scale according to the place difference between you and whoever you killed- kill the leading player and you get more points than you would for killing a nobody, which would address some of the time played versus skill issue. Please don't just use kill/death ratio though, that's just going to encourage being as cheap and defensive as possible.
So maybe a better solution could be figured out, the competition could be restarted, and the rules could be published with exact details before the competition starts? I agree with Jethro in that it will be difficult to declare a singular winner from a team game. It would almost be better (from a team standpoint, that is), if all the players on the team voted for the "MVP" of that match (or at the end of the particular map before loading the next one), that way it should hopefully push people into working for the team. This might mean selecting a class that historically has a low kpd ratio (read: medic), since as it stands right now I see no one playing as a medic (based on the above screenshot, I'm not sure about the red team).

It turns into a scout foot race then as it's teammate against teammate trying to cap the most to get the most points.

Also if it's points based then like in my favorite dustbowl, always play as defense and rack up the points as it's much harder on offense.

...sure enough, there it was an hour later: 'am I about to lose my interent?' (she likes to assume the worst in all situations).

What I'm getting at is... while I'm sure the 21,000 customers are more (ahem) tech savvy than average, it might not be a bad idea to send out a more formal clarification/statement about what is going on. As a bonus, this could be a good opportunity to mobilize and inform the masses.

I think the Battle at the Big Barn is a great idea, but maybe it could have been accompanied by a bit more information. I know everyone here is pretty caught up in this (I wrote my MP already), but let's just remember that not every teksavvy customer is reading this forum (or slashdot, etc) every week, so might not be aware.

The link to these forums was helpful...but there is a whole lot of information here spread out over many long threads.

Not trying to knock the competition or anything I think its a awesome idea! A great way to take the stress of bell off for a limited few who own the game. Maybe if theres ever another competition like this you could consider a game thats public access like Americas Army so all TSIers can get in on it.

So I'd like to donate something to a runner up in this competition. It's not much, but I have an extra credit in steam for Half Life 2 and Episode 1 that I can gift to someone. So here are the details again!

So, in trying to bring a little bit of both humour and fun to this stressful week, we sat down and came up with a fun event to hold/get us through this challenging time!

We'll be setting up a gaming server to be ready for Saturday morning.

Saturday and Sunday will be practice time only, BUT, as of Monday, March 31st, 9AM, until Sunday, April 6th, 5PM, we will hold a TF2 gamers Challenge!

Lets call it, as a first competition, "Throttle This! Battle at the Big Barn!". :D

Rules and such are going to follow but, it will be for TSI DSL customers only and the winner at the end of the week will receive $1,000 for kicking A$$!

More to come on this, and I'm done with the "."s! ;)
