Re: Usenet downloads affect by shaping?

Most things we've seen so far is that it throttles the whole connection when it detects something it needs to throttle. But I'm not sure if that's conclusive.

I will test my connection at home when I am downloading from Newsgroups.. But the really scary thing for me is that when I connected via RDP (NOT P2P or BT or NNTP) my entire connection was throttled.. Doesn't make sense that my downloads when I am connected over RDP wont hit full speed.. They always used to go full speed (even when I was with bell)

I suspect it targets anything with a high packet rate and/or a high transfer rate...

In my linked post above, usenet was the only application running. So I'm absolutely sure it was my usenet connection that was triggering the the throttle... what I didn't try is limiting my usenet client to a slower rate and see if that still tripped it.

I wonder how this is affecting the gamers.

I noticed some lag last night on Xbox live.. The only problem is that I have no way to verify the transfer rate coming out of my xbox 360.. I wish I could so we could start figuring out what the heck bell is doing..

I think the best part of all this throttling is that it is only going to entice coders to become more clever to get around the throttling.. Bell is trying to fight a battle they have already lost.. I guess ignorance is bliss
