Wrong statistics for PRO plan?

Have I wrong statistics for AT&T High Speed Internet PRO plan? The problem is with "Max Allowed Speed (kbps)" which is 1984 for "To Modem" and 512 for "To Internet". I think it must be near 3000 for "To Modem" or downstream. Am I right?

Re: Wrong statistics for PRO plan?

The pro package sync rates are 3008/512
You may be able to get that corrected by calling in
Can you post the modems log?

Thanks. I posted modem "Log" but I'm not sure if it is one that you looking for. If it isn't log file then my modem is SpeedStream 4100, please tell my which section you need.

Re: Wrong statistics for PRO plan?

That's the one
As I posted before:
You can either call in and try to get a level 2 tech to fix it or else post here in the AT&T Direct forum.
The weekend is here, direct may not get to you until next week.

Re: Wrong statistics for PRO plan?

Go ahead and post now. They work messages on a first-in-first-out basis so waiting a couple of days will just make it take longer to get a reply. Just don't expect any response before Monday or possibly even Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on how much of a backlog they have. And don't reply to your post until they respond, because that will take it out of the to-be-processed queue!

That max speed you report is one of the first steps in the 10-day ramp-up, so if your service is less than 10 days old you may just be going through this. If so, it will increase in a couple of days, by steps, until it either gets to the 3008 that's max for the Pro plan, or to the max that your line will allow. Your 12 db s/n ratio is pretty low but still 3 db above the usual minimum for reliability, so you may not be able to get the full 3008. That's why they do the 10-day process: it determines the highest speed that your circuit can maintain with reliability.

Edit: Oops! I intended to reply to the original poster, not to wayjac!

I'd suggest you call in and tell them you got the PRO package but it's capped at 1.9Mbps. Just a few minutes should be all it takes, or ask for a supervisor. Turn modem off and back on after confirmation

To jimkyle:
It's more than 10 days, near 20 days. It started from 17xx/4xx then it reached to current values. I will post today & thanks for advice

To hexwiz:
I called them before but they didn't help me! She said "Everything is good but your DSL speed depends on... blah blah blah... I don't know what can I do for you"

I think the techs in Direct will be able to fix you up once they get to your thread. The speed ramp apparently stopped too soon. It will do this sometimes for what seems to be no good reason.

The response you got when calling in is why wayjac See Profile and jimkyle See Profile recommended to just post in Direct in the first place.

I disgused my problem is AT&T Direct forum. They fixed capped speed to 3Mbps but they believe that I have another kind of problem too. The tech said "I am testing a ground on the Ring side of your cable. I created that trouble ticket of ... You will need to call ... to set a dispatch." then he added "I did uncap the line but the signal isn't very strong. I fear that by not sending a tech out to isolate the trouble you will end up with intermitant sync. Especially during the summer months". I called them for dispatch. I want to know if this problem is from their own half or mine? and is this service free of charge?

It is most likely on the AT&T side of the NID, their line. You would not be charged for that work. I think these sort of problems occur from a bad splice on the loops.

I guess there is a small chance it could be on your side of the NID, your inside wiring, for which you would be charged a truck roll. Maybe the cheapest way to fix an inside wiring problem would be to have a POTS splitter and home run installed or you can do it yourself with instructions in the FAQs here at DSLR if you are handy with tools. This solution is potentially easier than fixing all the phone wiring in your place.

Do you have a 4100/4100b or a 2210 modem? If you have a 4100/4100b modem, could you please run this DMT tool on your line and post the results and a link to the chart?: »SBC DSL FAQ »How can I check for the maximum attainable sync speeds with a 5100b/4100 modem?. This would help us to see what the chart looks like for an identified problem, a ground on the ring. If you have a 2210, don't bother trying to use the tool because Motorola changed the techreadout so it doesn't parse properly.

Thanks. Well your line condition isn't causing a large hole in the used tone bins as a ground sometimes will so a diagnosis of that graph is ambiguous.

Your attenuation is 29.5 dB and normally at that attenuation I would expect a modem to try to use the tone bins pretty much all the way across the the frequency spectrum even on the Pro speeds. The suspected ground may be causing the modem to avoid using the highest frequencies.

Then there is the possibility that your modem is simply "loafing" along at a lower that maximum power level and that is why your max sync capability on the DMT tool is only 4820. A line with 29.5 dB attenuation can be expected to handle 7000 kbps or more if the modem is running at full power.

So the bottom line is either the line condition is affecting your line's maximum sync speeds or your modem is requesting less than full power because it is syncing so well on the line. These ambiguous interpretations could be resolved if the modem only reported the output power used, but alas it doesn't. In most cases, a modem running on the Pro speeds on a 29.5 dB attenuation will be using most of the max allowed power though so the odds favor the first interpretation.

Sorry, that I can't give a better diagnosis from the DMT chart.

As a side note, there is a way to force the modem up to full power if you are connected to an RT, but it is complicated and involves accessing the modem's CLI. If we didn't have techs in Direct helping us, that would be the way to resolve between the two choices.

Re: Wrong statistics for PRO plan?

Thanks for your help So, you guess that it's on my own half? I have a 2wire 2710HG-B also but it is not working because of power adapter, I will send it back for repair/change. do you think changing modem will help me? If you think it will help so is it better to cancel the dispatch from at&t? Thanks again for your help.

If there is a line problem, the odds are it is on AT&T's side and it would be to your advantage to get it fixed.

Your modem log is showing hybrid #1 which is a good thing. It means your inside wiring has no signal-reflecting splits that could confuse the modem: »SBC DSL FAQ »What do the hybrid numbers mean and what do they tell you about your line?. A good, simple wiring layout like that maybe be less likely to have a short to ground.

Some homes have had extra phone jacks and lines added over the years and end up with electrical hairballs for inside wiring (hybrids #2 or even #3) and in those situations, you can also suspect a grounding of the wiring might be present.

Re: Wrong statistics for PRO plan?

d_l, Your are very helpful Yesterday a tech came here and checked some general things. Also he used a some kind of device to check the line. He said the line is very good, he also added for any problem I can call him. Anyway I don't understand what's going on with my DSL line! The cap is now correct and my download speed reaches max to 300KB/s. What's your opinion about my whole DSL? Today I will re-plug the 2wire modem.

If your line is working fine with no sync drops, then I wouldn't worry about it until (or if) a problem crops up. The "ground on the Ring side" seen by the tech in Direct may have been a false alarm. I don't have any experience with their remote tools and so I don't know how often they turn up false positive reading for something like that.
