| More crap charges from the RIAA and MPAA Another shake down from the RIAA and MPAA. I do not download music from P2P websites and therefore do not feel I should be shaken down to pay for those that do. If you remember the RIAA convinced our fascist legislators to pass a law that required a premium be paid by the manufacturers to the RIAA on all Cassettes and CD ROMs defined as being capable of recording music. There was a more draconian restriction placed on recording Compact Discs to Music CD ROMs. That was the Serial Copy Management System. That system prevented copying a copy of a copy. What the RIAA doesn't tell you is that they loved vinyl records and cassettes because they wore out. Both formats had a limited number of playback cycles before the quality of the recorded material deteriorated. Cassettes and Vinyl had one more limitation that the RIAA loved and that was the playback quality was not studio quality. Your music started out inferior to the master recordings and got worse every time the recording was played.
I believe that under fair use any music or video anyone purchases should be capable of being transferred to any other format that they desire for their convenience. I do not believe there should be any charge for transferring the material to another format. I believe that the consumer should be educated to the fact that copying a CD or DVD for a friend cheats the copyright holder out of revenue they are entitled to. Unfortunately most copyrights are not owned by the performers or composers but the record labels. |
