Internet Freedom Report-Day 1: Comcast Kills 63% of BT Traff

Kumbaya, my Lord, kumbaya

It's been more than a day since Comcast and BitTorrent jointly announced in disjointed terms that they've made peace with one another and -- somehow, by extension, the rest of Comcast's 13.9 million users and the worldwide Internet in general.

Kumbaya, my Lord, kumbaya

So, I fired up the good old BitTorrent client, set it just as I did 10 months or so ago, and started seeding. After all, forging TCP packets in order to hack the TCP stack was wrong to do -- Comcast has admitted that. Half of the press is reporting that Comcast has stopped interfering with P2P traffic! (Comcast, however, has graciously granted itself another 9 months of flying in the face of the IETF Internet Standards, sending forged traffic to both their customers and their customer's peers out of both sides of Comcast's network.) But still, certainly someone with ethics works there. Certainly someone would disconnect the damned thing, now admittedly guilty of the subterfuge it has been committing since -- what -- the summer of 2006?

Kumbaya, my Lord, kumbaya

This time, Comcast was not lying to the press. They have NOT stopped forging packets. They have NOT stopped interfering with P2P uploads. 20 minutes into my test, the level of interference has levelled off to 63% -- 95 out of 150 established connections were torn down using the RST flag.

Client is uTorrent 1.77
Encryption is disabled
Client is seeding only (no downloading during the test)
Duration: 20 minutes

Oh, Lord, kumbaya
