My friend gave me this little Dsl modem/router/AP when he switched providers. Is there a way I can use it as a router/AP with my cable internet service? I am at a loss as I've tried everything I know to get it to work. I will add some info so maybe someone could help me. I have a wireless laptop, and an ambit U10C018 cable modem. I plug the cable modem into the switch port 4 of the router/AP and then connect to the wireless, but I can't ping outside of 192.168.100.1? I have the router IP set at 192.168.100.2, with dhcp turned on. I have tried with static addresses with the Modem as my gateway, also tried it with the router as the gateway and all to no avail. Is this possible? Is the router/AP only output through the dsl/phone port? Don't get me wrong it works great for a network switch/AP but I want to use it for wireless internet with my laptop. any help is appreciated and you can email me through this site if you want too. Thanks ! -- A government large enough to provide you with everything, is also large enough to take everything away. |

It is a DSL Modem with a Router and AP added to in to make it a "3 in 1" device. Since it does not have a WAN Ethernet port it cannot be used on a Cable setup as a Router since it only supports DSL on the WAN interface. You can use it as a "dumb" 10/100 multi-port Switch/AP once you turn off it's DHCP server and let another Router handle the DHCP instead. You would only have use of the LAN ports and the Wireless. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
