[ActionTec] slow connection to wireless network

willperk : I replaced a one year old Actiontec GT704WG that failed to work via wireless connection (worked fine with ethernet connection) with a new one. The new one connects to the wireless network EVENTUALLY but it takes several minutes (like 10-15 minutes). Until it connects, my computer says there isn't an available wireless network. Lights on the Actiontec show DSL and Internet are available; it just acts like a problem with the computer finding the network. Since it does connect eventually, the settings must be right, eh? When the computer goes to sleep the connection is lost and takes as long to reconnect when it wakes up. I'm used to losing the connection when the computer goes to sleep but it used to come back up in few seconds. I've tried locating the new Actiontec in different spots in the house, but doesn't seem to matter. It's currently located where the old one was and from where it worked fine for a year.
Ideas? Thanks!
