iPhone Popularity -> Slower 3G Deployments

I wonder if AT&T is using the popularity of the iPhone as an excuse to slow 3G deployments. All the iPhone has done is given EDGE a 2 year extension on life.

Ugh.

No such conspiracy exists. At the time of iPhone development there wasn't a 3G chipset that offered the power and size requirements necessary for inclusion in the iPhone. While 3G certainly existed, other iPhone components took up substantial space and power.

Now, a few years down the development path, that portion of the phone can be upgraded to include more modern 3G components.
