<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/152092"><b>janderso1</b></A> : With today&#146;s chipsets there is no direct relationship between memory and FSB speed.<br><br>Does HP offer PC2 6400?  You probably need to talk to someone at HP or Crucial to see if the PC will actually use the 6400 at full speed.  My educated guess is with the chipset you have it will use it at full speed.<br><br>I don&#146;t have any experience with OCZ memory.  Regardless of what brand of memory you buy run Memtest86+ overnight to verify that it is good.<br><small>--<br>Jim Anderson</small>]]></description>

As I mentioned though, the thing is that you might as well just go by whatever speed memory that is installed, because that is what the system is set up for.  Unlike many desktop bios, it is pretty unlikely that you have any user-adjustable memory speed/performance settings in the notebook's bios<br><small>--<br>...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones?</small>]]></description>

That Microsoft says no matter what you do its only going to use around 3.12gb of the installed ram?<br><br>If it comes with 2gb ram, most likely that's going to be two 1gb modules.  I think if you try to match the brand and just swap one out for a 2gb module for 3g total installed.  You'll be happy and save a buck or two too.   <br><br>I probably have the same chip-set - mobile 965 express and 3gb ddr2/667 thats reports half that speed at 4clocks.<br> Using one corsair 1gb and one Kingston 2gb and boot reports Dual Channel L-Shaped Mode and SiW and others show it is still running symmetrical.]]></description>

If you get the computer, and it comes with 2gb PC2-5300, then I would go with that...if it comes with PC2-6400, then go with that.<br><br>Nothing wrong with OCZ.  Better "quality"?  Frankly, for a notebook user that is a moot point, as unless you like shortening the life of your components drastically (not much that you can do to improve a notebook's cooling ability), there is little opportunity for over-clocking, which is really the only primary need to go with any one brand of memory over the other.<br><br>All DDR2 from mainstream vendors will be more than adequate to the task...buy by price.<br><small>--<br>...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones?</small>]]></description>
