NormanS : In my experience, trying to loop back to a LAN computer from inside the LAN while using a public URL doesn't work reliably. I usually modify my routing table and dial a connection to the Internet. There may be a proxy service you can use, as well.
--
Norman
~Oh Lord, why have you come
~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum

anon : I have just received my new SMC8014 Router and I have one static IP. I have connected that to my NetGear WGT624 wireless router and it all works. I am using the Netgear to supply DHCP to my network with the network address range of 192.168.1.0 onwards and all my machines are working fine. The problem is - I am running a web server on my network that I want to allow public access to. So I forwarded Port 80 on the SMC to the IP address of the Netgear (which was assigned an SMC IP address of 10.11.10.40) and then of course forwarded that on in the Netgear to Port 80 on my internal web server in the 198 address range - Now when I type in the external static IP address of my SMC device all I get it the login screen for the SMC not my web site ! So I know I am missing something obvious here but Im not sure what. Do I need to setup a static route or some NAT - I have no clue which bit I need in the SMC to solve this problem.

Hope this was all clear !

Thanks for any help !

Mike
