This one's just for fun. I just received shipment of a Dell PowerEdge T105. Can you identify what's wrong with this picture? I have a new mobo on the way. -- ON DELETE CASCADE |

If you're referring to the slots, those would be PCI-E, no? Though would be installed upside down, still would work. |

Gwellin Premium join:2004-05-31 Regina, SK 1 edit | I would say that the slots are not aligned with the available openings on the case. That would make it a little difficult to put in any PCIE or PCI cards. -- Here to help all those in need, whenever I can. |

| reply to eX_NihiLo Well lookit that.. even in the documentation they have it spun the right way.
For some reason I just thought it was keyed for a specific voltage or something. |

1 edit | Yep, aurgathor spotted it first! I've never seen anything like that before. I went to toss a sound card in there, and had to do a sanity check! First time I've ever RMA'd anything before even plugging it in. -- ON DELETE CASCADE |

1 edit | reply to Ray I'm surprised the motherboard ever made it out of assembly like that. Even if they don't test the PCI slot as part of burn-in, aren't the pin arrangements on the PCB irregular where the notch in the white slot is? (I don't have a spare motherboard to check the back side of right now.) -- Interested in open source engine management for your Subaru? |

| reply to Ray Update: This is just some weird voltage PCI slot. I never knew there were two keyings. I looked it up on Wikipedia: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral···d_keying
You would have thought the tech support guy might assume their board was good and have some kind of a FAQ or something at their disposal, but we didn't get it figured out until the replacement arrived in the same configuration and I sent a nastygram. I feel kinda dumb, but since the manual even had it drawn the other way, this should have been caught on the front line. -- ON DELETE CASCADE |

| Yes, 3.3V only PCI slots have to have an extra key, but I thought that would be *in addition* to the other one, much like it shown on the Mac G4 picture.
Some people definitely didn't do their homework.
(Have to make a mental note to myself to check on my Dell server [SC440] once I get home ) |

| said by aurgathor :(Have to make a mental note to myself to check on my Dell server [SC440] once I get home ) Actually, I just remembered that I did make a picture of it yesterday.
It shows on the no-load slot (SLOT6) that the soldering points would allow a backward install, but the PCI connector is keyed (the 2 holes) to prevent that. |
