| Crysis SHOULD Be Smokin'...
...but alas, it ain't. I just built a new gaming/media center computer with the following specs:
Mobo: Asus P5E with updated BIOS CPU: Intel Quad Core QX9650 OC'd to 3.4 GHz Graphics Card: EVGA 8800GTX RAM 4 gigs of matched Kingston RAM OS: Vista Ultimate 64 bit
Unless I'm mistaken, this monkey should be seriously chewing up the frames in Crysis, even at the highest settings. Unfortunately, I can only get truly smooth action by setting everything on High with Anti-Alias off. When I click on the game's Optimizer function, it resets everything to Very High so even the game seems to think my system should be okay at that level. I've made sure that Punkbusters is set on Manual and not Auto and I turn off most background apps (AV, etc.) but nothing seems to work.
Is there a potential issue with my system or does my rig STILL not have big enough balls for this game!? |

| reply to Desdinova My system is similar except, QX6600 @ 2.7, 8800GTX 768mB, and Vista 32. I get around 20 FPS with all Very High and AA off, except during the Rock Falls in Awakening/Mine, when the FPS drops to near 10. This is quite playable for an old guy like me.
If you have installed the 1.2 patch, then make sure you are running in Fullscreen Mode each time you launch the game, there's a bug that reverts to Windowed Mode. Also, make sure you not running a background resource hog, use the What's Running program to check rather than Taskmanager. -- Proud Member of Team Discovery |

| reply to Desdinova Look at the benchmarks floating around the net. Even the 9800GTX still has issues with Crysis. I'd suggest running the game in DX9 mode, as DX10 mode takes away such a large chunk of performance, and in return gives little in terms of better visuals.

| reply to Desdinova Thanks for all the helpful comments! I didn't realize Crysis was causing so many chokes; I don't feel so bad anymore .
I haven't installed the 1.2 Patch (yet) but the game seems to remember my preference for Full Screen mode as it's booted into such each time I load the game. I'll try running in DX9 and see if that helps, but otherwise it looks like I'll have to move towards getting a second 8800 GTX.
Thanks again, everyone! |

| reply to Desdinova crysis cant be played on Very High settings at 1680x1050 with any PC that doesnt have dual GTX's or better. even with dual 9800GX2's, essentially 8800GTS 512MB quad SLI, Very High settings are barely attainable at reasonable frame rates.
also every game ive seen so far suffers a 10-15% FPS loss when run under Vista, even when running DX9. not bashing vista, but i;ve seen these results duplicated on many many review sites.
the GTX is definitely a strong card but it's age is starting to show. the $230-250 8800GTS is essentially the same real-world speed as it in many games and losing out to the GTX in some others, but usually not by much. i'd definitely consider dual GTX's or selling it for a 9800 GX2 if you're running an intel chipset and still looking for an upgrade. basically the best setup for an Intel chipset motherboard PC is going to be a single 9800GX2 or dual 3870 X2s. -- Somnambulator - t3h 5133pw41k3r

| The ability to produce the pixels of an image and actually render the image for display are disjoint tasks. Although given that IBM's BlueGenes are rented by all types of researchers, I'd be surprised if they didn't make them versatile enough to handle a number of potential work loads, including some image processing (which would utilize a pipe-lined graphics processor for handling textures). -- It takes two to lie, Marge. Isn't the P5E a Crossfire mobo? i.e. would take two ATI cards? |

| reply to Desdinova I don't mean to hijack this thread but I just built a new system yesterday. Running a Q6600@2.4(no overclock yet) with 4 gigs ddr2 800, Vista Ultimate SP1 64 bit, and a 9600gt on a Gigabyte ep35-DS3P. I'm playing the single player demo of Crysis with everything on high and no AA at something like 1370x12 something res. I haven't tried the very high settings yet just been playing the game. It seems to fly on my system.DX 10 too. How do you bring up the FPS to see what you are getting in game? -- "It's a nice day if you wake up in Disneyland" |
