I bumped my ram up slightly with my OC, but never have touched my video card. 500W+ on power supply sounds reasonable to me. |

A few pieces for under $400

This isn't a bad price to get into a quad core system. You can upgrade other things later, like the motherboard. This particular one isn't good for OC'ing.

That looks OK, but with taxes and shipping, that would go over $400, I'm sure. Also, $19.99 for a 580W PSU seems a bit odd to me. I wonder, is it even any good? |

I wonder, is it even any good? You can always play with it some. Go down to a dual core and then in a year goto a quad. No worries about having to replace the motherboard since it is the same socket type. Since we are lowering the cpu we can upgrade in some other areas..
Upgrade some other items and presto ...

1 edit | reply to rawwhide I suppose that looks decent.
I don't know how that AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor compares to the Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 that I had in mind. But it definitely would be cheaper.
I have the same thought about that motherboard. I'm not sure how it compares to the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.
The video card looks like it may be better than the one I had in mind, though.
The RAM is a bit pricier. I think the OCZ Platinums would be better for $67.
The PSU still looks a bit iffy, though. 500W for $43.99 is too good to be true.
Lastly, I'm wondering if those are priced in USD. What store is that, anyway? |

| The Intel likely would overclock higher. Video card brand I have never bought from before, not sure on it. Mobo looks fine from the basic stats. Rosewill is a Newegg brand? USD prices, Newegg. Google for the name of some item and review and read up on them before you buy. |

| I think I'm just gonna go with the Intel E2160 and the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. I think they'd work very well for WoW. I'm about 99% set on those two items right now. AMD is starting to sound good, but I doubt I'd change my mind anymore unless there's a significant drop in the overall total price if I did switch to AMD, but I think the extra $5-10 is worth going for the E2160, even on my budget.
I will most likely end up buying the OCZ Platinum RAM sticks here: »www.directcanada.com/products/?s···20BD3804.
The power supply is still proving to be the hardest thing to fit into my budget, and a decent video card under $90 would be very nice. |

No wonder you are having such trouble, directcanada.com blows. No offense. Here is an image of the shopping cart from that website.

1 edit | Oh, you didn't need to do any work at all. I had already checked those items on Direct Canada after you posted your subtotal from Newegg. It's an OK setup, don't get me wrong, but for just a bit cheaper, the stuff I have in mind will probably work better. But I'll still keep them in mind. Thanks for the work.
I'm also considering that same power supply. Still doing a lot of research on it, though. High wattage plus cheap price of under $50 CAN'T be as good as it looks. |

Oops, looks like that specific power supply just become unavailable. Haha, too bad. |

| 500W power supplies are getting cheaper as more and more people use bigger PSU's for dual video cards etc, so a ~$50 500w PSU is not all that uncommon, unless youre going top of the line antec or thermaltake. Ive heard good things about coolermaster, so looks like you got a pretty solid setup overall. Hope you enjoy =) |

| reply to Bes I hear ya on that. I get stuff I want from newegg sent to my parents house in the states and they just forward it to me here in Canada.
Not many good PC part sites in Canada you can ship from or they don't have much to offer. Tiger direct is about it. |

| reply to Tehuno It's a good thing you've heard some good things about Coolermaster, since they seem to be the cheaper PSU's. Although, that specific PSU in my setup just sold out, so I'm back to looking for another one, lol.
TOPDAWG:
That's not a bad idea. Too bad I don't personally know anyone who lives in the US. Newegg should really consider changing their policy.
Anyway, I found a couple more PSU's that look decent. What do you guys think of these:
»www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph···d=PS.808
That first one is definitely cheaper. I know you guys told me that at least 500W would be good to support what I'm getting, but would 460 be OK? I'd only be OC'ing the CPU, and probably not by much. |

| Yeah even sending it to my parents it's still a pain in the ass. They won't take a cdn CC so I have to use my old dept card account I had when I lived in the states.
Even sites who don't ship to Canada will take a cdn CC but newegg's system will refuse it. |
