| Comacast Taking Over on April18
I received a letter from Comcast which deals with the takeover of Patmedia.
We will have until April 18 to transfer our email over to Comcast (Gmail here I come). We can look forward to 6MB download speeds and 1MB upload speeds. We'll also get bursts for the first 10MB of downloads & the first 5MB of uploads.
It seems that Comcast isn't going to compete with Verizon.
A little update. I spoke to a Patmedia Customer Service Rep this morning (4/3/08). She assured me that internet speeds wouldn't be changing once the Comcast takeover is complete.
I took another look at the letter sent out by Comcast. There is a link in the letter to go to www.comcast.com/patriot for more information. The problem is that the webpage doesn't exist. There is also a phone number to call for more information 1-800-728-1776. That phone number is wrong. The correct one should be 1-866-728-1776.
I'm currently looking at FIOS & Satelite. I'll be losing my email address & really don't see the need of paying Comcast more money for fewer and slower services.

| I'm really tired of changing my e-mail. I was sprintmail, then embarqmail then patmedia and now comcast. It is a real pain in the a$$ to update everyone that needs your new email. Why can't comcast retain the patmedia domain? I know you are all going to tell me to get a web based e-mail and you are right. I still felt this need to vent my frustration. I wish I could go to Verizon, but that will never happen unless I move. Goodbye PatMedia...I hate to see you go even though I won't really miss you! |

| reply to Zookeeper said by Zookeeper :I'm currently looking at FIOS & Satelite. A fine combination. I dropped FiOS TV recently in order to get the HD from DirecTV, especially MSG and MSG+. The picture is great on the new MPEG4 channels.
There's simply no competition for FiOS internet, though. |

| reply to Zookeeper If I read the notice correctly it said "if you have over 7 E-mail addresses on Patriot" then they will only transfer the first seven. You can delete: 1) all above seven, 2) delete all but one. They will transfer the first seven of the one(s) that are left.

| Just purchases my own modem, and set up tonight with Patriot. According to tech, all current Patriot internet users are grandfathered into our current speed. In my case 15/2, if I make any changes to my account to a Comcast package, I'll loss the grandfathered speed. |

| I called customer support earlier in the week. They are in a state of flux. I told the CSR I would be going over to Direct TV (a lot more HD). She told me to wait for a call from the Retention Department. I'm still waiting. -- Z-Man |

| reply to Zookeeper Retention Department??!!! Give me a break! Having said that, I'm not at all surprised at Comcast missing the Apr. 18 date. These changeovers are enormously complex, give them a little slack. Anti-ditto the speed issue; there are so many variables in play here, no one can make any judgments about average/typical/maximum speed. I'm not anti/pro either company - I just know what it's like to switch systems that have been in play for years. |

| reply to Zookeeper You have got to read that letter more carefully! FIRST OF ALL- THEY ARE NOT CONVERTING ANY EMAIL ACCTS YET AND YOU WILL BE FULLY INFORMED BY MAIL/EMAIL AND PHONE CALL. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO UNTO COMCAST SITE (NOT YET THOUGH!!) ENTER IN YOU EMAIL ADDRESS AND IF IT IS NOT TAKEN YOU WILL GET THAT EMAIL ADDRESS @COMCAST.COM. ALSO YOU CAN UPLOAD YOUR ADDRESS BOOK AND IT WILL MAIL OUT A NOTIFICATION TO ALL IN IT. PATRIOT MEDIA IS ALSO GOING TO FORWARD FOR 6 MONTHS AFTER THE EMAIL CONVERSION. ONE THING YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON IS CHANGE MY DEAR! Sorry about the caps!T'was not intentional. |

@verizon.net
| reply to Zookeeper It may be a coincidence but since Comcast has taken over my speed has dropped to 2 from an average in the 6's. Of course with Comcast's reputation for throttling its customers, it is quite possible that they are beginning to drive their customers to a higher cost for the same level as Patmedia. |

join:2005-04-19 Annandale, NJ | My speed has gone in the opposite direction. I've seen a speed boost from 6 to 10 Mbps since Comcast took over. I don't know why, but this is one of the situations that you don't complain about or investigate. |
