RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT | Hmm... I'm watching Comcast HD right now and it looks awesome.
Actually..one of the best HD pictures I've ever seen.
And, scanning through my whole lineup the rest look great as well.
I guess the Satellite salesmen are resorting to anything these days to try to sell their 2nd rate service. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

| reply to Rick My Comcast HD service has been problematic from go.
I remember watching the Mets Vs. Phillies game on Comcast SportsNet at the end of last year's season. The dropped frames and pixelization drove me INSANE.
Compared to my buddy's Fios TV, my Comcast service is definitely second rate. I'm patiently waiting for Verizon. Supposed to have it by the end of June.
Sure, Comcast's light beams might technically pass more homes, at least according to their commercial, but when those light beams actually come to my doorstep. Well, the result is more gooder... -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

I'm sorry if your experience has been less than satisfactory..but mine hasn't.
I have yet to see a HD picture that looks anything close to what has been presented in these "news" stories. My HD pictures look great. Awesome in fact. And so too is my 30,000k HSI speeds.
Sorry if that seems to trouble you. But that's how comcast performs for me. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

 | reply to Rick What do you want us to do, pat you on the back because Comcast has such a great picture in Waterbury?
We get it - you like love Comcast. You'd find some way to justify continuing to love Comcast if they literally took your first born.
And please explain to me what exactly is second-rate about satellite. The fact that they cooperate with Internet forums on releasing beta software for their boxes containing new features? The fact that they've been continuing to increase picture quality by shifting to MPEG4 compression? The fact that DirecTV has more HD channels than any other major provider? The fact that DirecTV offers remote booking and media share/networking capabilities?
You say rain fade is a problem with satellite? Then perhaps you should talk to the thousands of customers in the Seattle area who went without Comcast's services for a month after the December 2006 windstorm.
If anything, it's Comcast's bogus ads about having "more HD", omitting the word "channels" after those two words, that wreaks of desperation. |

RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT 1 edit | reply to sullim4 My experience is that satellite's hd picture is 2nd rate to what I have on Comcast. Not to mention the hassles of satellite service in general and the way it's generally impacted by weather related issues..not to mention the compression which creates an inferior picture IMHO.
I really don't see where a picture that people are going to outerspace to get is ever going to compete with one delivered via fiber/coax straight to the TV. Common sense says otherwise..and even people who have satellite HSI see the reality of having a signal delivered in that manner.
Why then would tv..and especially hdtv..be any different?
I realize that for some..it works..and works fine for their purposes. And I think that's great. I don't think it will ever be comparable however to either cable or to what Verizon will offer with FIOS. |

Funny that my neighbor's DirecTV never goes out but when we get a good storm here Comcast goes down faster than a $10 hooker. Funny indeed.

That's just the point though Doc. I don't put my opinion up against anyones. I actually have and subscribe to the service..and have seen what the competition has to offer.
Do you even have hd service from Comcast or are you just relying on these obviously blatant and false articles?
And, I'd hardly compare some snow covered tiny residential satellite dangling from someones side porch with the monster sized satellites that cable operators get SOME of their feeds from. Of course..the others..they get directly via fiber feeds directly from the broadcasters themselves from what I understand.
It has been shown here at bbr time and time again..the problems people complain about with satellite service. And it's very noticable with satellite hsi service. The lag..and the latency is what they get. And that SAME thing is what is delivering their overcompressed hd pictures.
I simply see no comparison whatsoever to a fiber to the node/coax way of delivering a signal or..in the case of Verizon..a ftth connection.
People see 2000ms delays and packet loss with their satellite Hsi. It IS the same with Tv.
No way will I EVER believe that satellite hd is better than what cable operators deliver. Is it an alternative? Yes. And it works for some. But I wouldn't want it. It's second rate IMHO. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

1 edit | reply to RadioDoc Bose is the sound system people buy when they want to brag to their friends about the great system they got. It's mid-range in terms of quality but it's like bragging you got a new Hyundai.
Rick doesn't understand technical details so he only engages in confirmation bias when it comes to these discussions. Bashing "satellite" because it transmits a picture through space is like bashing U-P's cargo because they use rails |

 | reply to plat2on1 But those are 18" oval dishes while the ones at Comcast are big dishes. Little dishes they have are smaller so it's different completely. Big dishes are big so they're different and it's nothing like the other way.
