Thanks for all the helpful comments! I didn't realize Crysis was causing so many chokes; I don't feel so bad anymore  .
I haven't installed the 1.2 Patch (yet) but the game seems to remember my preference for Full Screen mode as it's booted into such each time I load the game. I'll try running in DX9 and see if that helps, but otherwise it looks like I'll have to move towards getting a second 8800 GTX.
