| 10mb Connection only running half speed?
I recently got charter 10mb cable internet. When I first got it, it was only running at 5mb. So I called charter and they told me they will do a "modem refresh" Not really sure what that is but when I tried it the next day it worked. I am not sure if the "refresh" helped. I just recently noticed my speeds were going slow again so I ran a speed test. It comes up as 4.8mb down and 500k up. It should be double that. So I called up and they told me the modem isnt compatible with the 10mb speed. She told me to go to the local place and trade and get a new modem. Weird as seeing they just installed this two weeks ago. Anyway I was wondering if there is anything I can do on my end other than unplugging the modem? Thank you. |

| Its just weird becuase I was just running 10mb yesterday. I called up and they told me that I am on the 10mb plan for sure and that those speeds are under the minimum for my plan. But the person said they checked my modem and it said it was offline even though i was online. Weird.... |

| reply to avengence85 That makes me think that they are testing the wrong MAC address (kind of like the modems ID). They might somehow have a different modem on your account than the one you're using. They actually have to put the MAC address on your accound twice - once in the billing system and once in a provisioning system which tells the modem what speed it should be getting. Not sure how many CSRs actually know how to verify all this. Easiest fix would be to swap it at the local office, that way once it's swapped it should get straightened out by itself. Plus I don't know for sure if the older Ambit modems are 10meg compatible. They've been around for a while... |

| Ok, after running in circles all day I just got it worked out by the tech support. Turns out they never defined a speed for me and they just switched to Wave today in my area. Anyway so after talking to about 5+ people one guy was able to figure it out. Also after I went in and changed out to another modem no one set it up right so it wasnt connecting. They told me I was going to have to wait till a tech could come out which would be saturday! Anyway he figured out no speed was defined and that no one had properly provisioned the modem. Anyway I got it all worked out and back to downloading at 1 megabyte a seccond Thank you all for the input! |
