Re: Charlie Angus, an Honourable man. VIDEO OF GOVERNMENT DEBATE

I just wrote Mr. Prentice and my MP (again) ...

Mr. Prentice,

I saw coverage of your recent comments in the House regarding Bell's monopoly and interference with network traffic, the result of which is a controlled and degraded Canadian Internet.

You comment "We have a well advanced Internet system in this country. It is not publicly regulated. At this point in time we will continue to leave the matter between consumers on the one hand and Internet service providers on the other." is totally off the mark and demonstrates your unfamiliarity of the issues at hand.

This is an issue between the Common Carrier (Bell Nexxia) and independent ISPs. The consumers you mention are the people who have to suffer with a controlled, some would say censored, access to information not by their ISP, but by a Governement regulated monopoly. The relationship between the Common Carrier and ISPs is regulated by the CRTC, and recently classified as an essential service by the CRTC. An essential service that is now being interfered with by the Common Carrier, demonstrating anti-competitive business practices by having their monopolistic policies thrust upon independent ISPs. This impedes the ability of the independent ISPs to conduct business with their constomers in a manner that fits their own business policies.

The policies of independent ISPs I speak of are specifically unhindered and open access to the internet, by all applications for all lawful uses. The ISPs are unable to deliver on promises made to their customers because of Bells direct efforts to interfere with traffic and manage what the end consumers can and can't use their internet connection for.

How can you leave this as a matter between consumers and their ISP when in reality it's a matter between the ISP and Bell, the Commom Carrier? -- a matter that is regulated by the Government, and labelled an essential service by the Government!

Government involvement is required now. The internet was intended to be a free and open domain and it should be returned to it's former glory.
