| Brand new Dryer... I don't want to mess up the installation!
hello!
I just got my first washer and dryer and I live in an apartment on the first floor.
The area where the washer and dryer go is kind of small (I have to do all the hookups with them pulled out into the hall and yeah, I have to stack these puppies)
Anyway, from the ceiling a vinyl/plastic flexible vent pipe hangs down about 2 feet. I got an 8 foot (max) aluminum flexible pipe
I guess my question is, is it okay to attach a metal pipe to the plasticky one? All I could find for sale around here was metal/aluminum so I'm not sure if I can have those materals match up. Also, the existing pipe is hanging from WITHIN the ceiling, so I cannot replace it.
Also, is it better to attach these with duct tape or the clamps that came with the metal vent kit? and finally, Should I be attaching the vent kit directly to the dryer? Or should I get an elbow pipe to attach to the dryer first?
Thanks for any replies! |

@metrocast.net | I'm pretty sure it's specifically vinyl and not plastic
or is that still a fire hazard?

Let me state now and for the future: I do not recommend the use of this highly flammable and easily damaged material. To be safe and to meet modern standards, throw away your old venting pipe and replace it with ridged metal pipe and semi-rigid flexible connectors. Limit the length of flexible pipe to a total of 8 feet and the overall total piping to 25 feet. |

| reply to serenityrick First like everyone else said- get the plastic removed. If any company would sell, deliver and install (Lowe's) would not connect that for you due to the plastic being a fire hazard.
Also the plastic will fit over a solid steal/metal piece and then that over an aluminum tube. That will work but still not advisable.
I've seen it done many times when delivering items to customers (and yes I worked for Lowe's) |
