| Hawai'i 's air security - Asleep at the wheel
Kinda looks like more than the pilots may have been asleep.
With an unresponsive commercial jet missing its landing and no one knowing what was happening in the cockpit, federal aviation officials say they alerted the military about the wayward flight that failed to respond to nearly a dozen calls.
The military denies any alarm was raised. While investigation has focused on whether the pilots were sleeping, the Feb. 13 incident prompted congressional concern Wednesday and reveals a possible breakdown in communications despite all the measures installed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

In recordings obtained by AP, the controller is heard repeatedly trying to contact the pilots and even talking to the pilot of another go! airlines flight in hopes of reaching Flight 1002.
"I'm worried he might be in an emergency situation." the controller says.
Finally, about 44 minutes into the flight, the controller was able to establish radio contact and told the flight crew to change course and head back to Hilo, where they landed safely about 15 minutes later, according to the NTSB.
Or, maybe they just weren't too concerned about Hilo being a target, or losing a few commuters and tourists headed that way. I suspect that their emergency response coordination isn't up to levels in other states. Who remembers Payne Stewart?
But then, who wants those nasty centers anyway - they're just spy nests full of cops, military and feds anyway -- Mayors of New York come from nowhere and go nowhere. Wallace Sayre (apparently, so do governors... ) |

Ofcourse it was just a coincidence that... - Devoted muslims go to strip clubs and drink alcohol before they are going to see Allah. - Atta attempts to take hes will and other stuff with him in the plane (that is going to be destroyed in flames), but mysteriously they just miss the plane and are left for FBI to discover. - It took 1½ hours to scramble jets to protect Washington. - There have already been 3 different explanation on the subject of "when where interceptors launched and why they didnt get there on time"...how many more different explanations they are willing to give? - None of the planes sent "hijacked" signal. - BBC news told that WTC7 has collapsed long before it actually collapsed, even it was very strange that it did collapse at all. - Steel framed building(s) collapsed due to fire, first time in history. They still wonder why. - Sprinklers in WTC7 didnt work. Funny. - Bush almost zero popularity raised to very, very high popularity. - Oil and gas (and pipes) in Iraq and Afganistan are in US control. - FBI admits that they dont have any clear evidence that Osama did it (hes not most wanted because of 911), stil we are all told he did it... - How about the antrax letters, do you even remember them? Upss... Nobody talks about it anymore, when it was discovered that antrax actually came from US military lab. - And the Iraq weapons of mass destruction...well, we are still waiting.

It's just what the people deserve here. Greed at tickets as low as zero by that immoral, crap airline Go that tried to drive Hawaiian out of business (is now paying a huge fine for that) and then did succeed in driving the best airline in the nation out of business. All this because the people of Hawaii refused to be loyal to Hawaiian and Aloha and took the Go bait. Now we pay and we will pay for the rest of my life time at least. I never took the bait. I remained loyal to Aloha and I won't fly on Go period. I want that airline out of Hawaii. And, of course, those who pay the most are the neighbor island folks who have to fly to Oahu for medical treatment (ordinary treatment available in third world nations but not available in Hawaii except in Honolulu). At least, perhaps, Go will hire some decent pilots now that Aloha's pilots are all out of a job. -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. Great golfer.
DOA before they hit from loss of cabin pressure at altitude. Crashed after plane ran out of fuel but was tracked visually by USAF chase planes. ---- That plane that overflew Hilo almost got away.
Edit* It took what 2 years to find out that nuclear detonators were shipped overseas by mistake. Might take just as long to see if it is the Hilo tower that is fibbing or the military about communications. -- "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact". - Sherlock Holmes |

God save the queen if I ever have to catch a flight where that happens. Hate flying love travelling. Kind of "Hamlet's" internal dilemma:
To flybe, or not to flybe: that is the question.

| reply to Grail Knight I'd guess that the tower conversations, including phone calls, may be recorded. If that's the case, it would clear up some of the confusion. I'd hope that the pilots' flight logs would be reviewed for possible violations of rest-flight rules.
If I recall correctly, the rest/operate rules for truck drivers are more strict than those of commercial airline pilots. -- Mayors of New York come from nowhere and go nowhere. Wallace Sayre (apparently, so do governors... ) |

| There are always ways to find out what happened.
When the flight I was on slid off the runway and crashed into an embankment they had more voice records then they could shake a stick at.

said by jansson_mark :Ofcourse it was just a coincidence that... - Steel framed building(s) collapsed due to fire, first time in history. They still wonder why. Actually, only those without street smarts, basic knowledge, or those easily manipulated by Rosie O' types are still wondering why. In general, steel looses 50% of its strength at around 550 deg C; which is about 250 deg C lower in temperature than an average building fire. Near 750 deg C, steel retains only 10% of its original strength. However, you don't need to know the specific numbers to realize steel becomes weaker or easier to bend/work once it is heated by a fire. One only needs to have seen raw steel products being made or watch a blacksmith work iron (some do work mild steel).
