biult a new computer for gaming. evga 780i mobo, vista 64 bit. (everything else shouldn't matter) my old computer has xp. which the internet works perfectly fine. o, my setup is a SB4100 cable modem, going to a brand new netgear 10/100/1000 router going to the xp comps networking card and to the vista comps mobo directly. (who's rated speed is also 10/100/1000. the xp comp is only 10/100) not getting anything on the new comp. at all... try folowing vistas setup everyway i can imagin. keeps saying that it cannot connect or found an unidentified network. it also says my service provider name is incorrect (which i treid to fill in with every name number possible, ie. ip adress multiple ones, earthlink, and other random stuff.?)
try to diagnose the problem with vista which comes up with nothing. then read something on connecting the modem to your usb port. okay, found a random ieee to usb cord plugged it in which came up with absolutly nothing... i kid you not, didnt even get a new hardware device detected. nothing. support on earthlinks web page comes up with nothing. called in to get an automated voice that actually hung up on me. haha
dont know waht to do. once again the xp computer still has internet but thats not the point. This problem totaly defeated the point of buying my new gaming computer. |

| I would focus on getting your computer fixed and accepting a network connection. This issue has nothing to do with your ISP. As you have already mentioned the router and XP computer all work.
