Westel 6100 Linksys W54G and Version DSL

I have the above set up the modem is from Version. I bought another 6100 off Ebay so I could return the rented 6100 to Version.
The problem is I can not get the Ebay 6100 to connect to the service. The modem seems to be working ok. I get a red light on the internet led and the message cannot connect, or hook up a dsl line. I assume there is something in it for version to recognize but I don't know what setting. Its address is 192.168.1.1 and the Linksys address is 192.168.0.1
I compared it to the working one and all settings look the same. However I may have overlooked something.
What have I not set up correct?
thanks

You may double check and see what the VPI/VCI settings are supposed to be for Verizon's network. You can change it in the modem under Configuration > Advanced WAN > WAN.

Those settings are not available through the modem.
Configuration > Advanced WAN > WAN.

Yours may be a little different as far as where the menus are, but there should be some option (maybe advanced?) where you can get into the WAN menus and check the setup.

What settings are available through modem, and is one of them expert mode like my 6100 from BellSouth? If so, those settings should be in expert mode>configure>connection.

Here is a screen shot of the menus, the only place I can find Wan mentioned is in this one, "single static IP configuration" There is nothing under maintenance.

Try "VC Configuration". That is where you should be able to set VPI/VCI, and PPPoE account and password (if your ISP uses PPPoE)

Ok, what do I change? This is from the Rented modem. It is for Centurytel, which I have DSL through. I have the same settings on the new one though. The one I bought to replace it was for Verison I believe.

If the VPI, VCI and protocol are all set correctly, then the only other problem could be the account and password for that connection.

I'm not sure - I think you get a chance to set that when changing the settings. However, you can also set those by clicking on HOME and then editing the session settings - that's probably the best way to do it.

I have set the name and password when I first installed it, It is correct but still doesn't work. I get a red internet light. I thought that there was something set in the modems to tell Centurytel that it was a centurytel modem like a Ip address or something else but I don't know what.

Larry, I can move this over to our Centurytel forum if you would like. Let me know.

Go ahead and move it Sashwa.

I work for Centurytel larry, and it does sound like there is a user/password issue if you're getting the red internet light. Your modem settings look fine as far as the VPI/VCI settings. Make sure you aren't putting the "@centurytel.net" in the user ID field behind the user name.

Have you hit the reset button to restore factory settings? Also, I'm assuming you have the linksys out of the equation right now?

If all else fails, you can put the 6100 in bridge mode, and have your Linksys handle the PPPoE session.

Is there a way to d/l the firmware from the working one and u/l it to the non working one?

How do I set it iup in bridge mode. I'm not too great on modems or routers.

thanks
