New Dell Laptop!

I ordered a new Dell Inspiron 1525 today... I couldn't pass this deal up.

The base price was $685... $730 with taxes (BOO Taxes!), shipping was free. I used my education discount so I got free shipping and an extra $15 off.

Here are the specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz
3 gigs of memory
320 GB harddrive
DVD+/-RW Drive
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
2 MP webcam

I really don't care about the integrated graphics card.. I don't use my laptop for gaming.

Think I made a good choice?

Seems like a good deal to me, especially if you are happy with it. I hope to get one this summer when I figure out how I want to redesign my workspace.

Yep. In fact, if you do not use your laptop for gaming, at that point, the integrated graphics are actually an advantage. Less internal heat, lower power demands, greater battery run-time. Outside of gaming, nothing at all wrong with the X3100 graphics.

That is a reasonably well built (for a budget notebook, and nothing wrong with that!) notebook, with a good layout and nice features!

I have a HP Pavillion DV series notebook, which I like quite a bit, but I would have been equally happy with the Inspiron.

Thanks for the reassurances!

Dell has a deal going on where you get free upgrades to 3 gigs of memory and a 320 GB hard drive. What a steal!

I currently have a four year old HP Pavilion dv5020us, which has served me incredibly well but its age is starting to show.. it's a little sluggish. I can't wait until I receive this Dell, it'll be blazingly fast compared to this (1 gig of memory, AMD Turion 1.8 Ghz processor, 80 gig hard drive).

That's good to hear about the integrated graphics! I haven't played a game on my laptop once and don't plan to start so I'm glad it'll actually be beneficial to me. I just like to multi task with Word, Firefox, AIM, etc. so I'm sure with the dual core processor and 3 gigs of memory, I'll have no problem doing that!

This Dell upgrade deal expires the 7th!!

So, me2000, did you decide to order the Dell? Nice to get a 320gb hard drive! It was not all that long ago at all, that 80gb was about the best you could do!

Until/unless you go to a 64bit OS, the 3gb is all the memory that you can use/need.

Yes, I received it yesterday actually! Ordered it Friday. Three days to my doorstep is pretty amazing to me (especially when two of those days are Saturday and Sunday).

The 320 GB is ridiculous! I don't think I'll ever fill it up. But the more the merrier, right? And you're right about the 80 gb being the best you could do before because that's what is in my old HP laptop and I barely filled it halfway.

And that's what I figured with the memory... 3 gb is way more than enough. Memory makes such a huge difference, I only have 1 gig in my old laptop.

This laptop flies like a dream. Vista is so smooth compared to my old laptop. Everything is instant compared to a constant lag.

The screen is also so bright and crisp.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase. I would recommend Dell to anyone.

Great! Sounds like you are going to be happy with that notebook!

320gb is quite a nice hard drive for a notebook!

I know what you mean: my wife has a 3 year old Sony notebook with a 60gb drive, but she doesn't do any graphics, or store music on it, and still has plenty of drive space.

On the other hand, I do keep music on my laptop, as well as photos, etc., and tend to use up a lot more drive space if it is available (I've got a 160gb hard drive on mine)...but now days drive space on the computer is a little less critical, with so many inexpensive external drives available.
