1 edit | reply to Loker1 If you're having issues in other states, like MI or TN, then you've (probably) got something else going on - this issue seems to be/have been geographically centralized... AFAIK, nothing's even been happening on this side of PA (a wholly seperate region from the east). After talking to a few people who work for them in this area, they haven't talked to a single person who's experienced any similar issue (this is the western half of PA, bits of northern WV and some of eastern OH... with a dab of MD in there, I believe). But, hey, I could be wrong. |

4 edits | reply to Morac Not related to this issue, but an answer to the above question: quote: A note regarding our findings: Further experiments have led us to believe that our initial conclusions that indicated Comcast's responsibility for dropping TCP SYN packets and forging TCP SYN, ACK and RST (reset) packets was incorrect.
Our experiments were conducted from behind a network address translator (NAT). The anomalous packets were generated when the outbound TCP SYN packets exceeded the NAT's resources available in it's state table. In this case, TCP SYN, ACK and RST packets were sent. We would like to thank Don Bowman, Robb Topolski, Neal Krawetz, and Comcast engineers for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this posting may have caused.

| reply to bobsap i live in southern West Virginia and my speeds have dropped to dial up. i called comcast three times today, last time was around 7pm. i was told that at&t had problem's with some of their switches and allot of customers have been rerouted to make up for the outage. the end result has been reduced speeds for everyone. |

I am in TN and I have been having very similar problems all night.
I too am in TN and am having slow issues. I didn't notice them until around 1030pm when I stopped working a non-net needed project I've been working on.
Pathping to google.com shows high ping (249ms) at outbound 12.118.120.101, and 100% loss at next two router sbr2.attga.ip.att.net [12.123.20.182] and 12.122.96.5 Hops 5,6, and 7 respectively.
Called support, they said they're aware of the issue and it's being worked. After seeing all these posts, I'm not confident it will be corrected quickly. |

| reply to bobsap I've been having issues all week with a 40 minute outage on Monday. I'm guessing a lot of people haven't noticed the issue since it has been flaking on and off in 20 second intervals. I had thought I had an issue on my end with my splitters until my cousin who lives about 20 miles away mentioned she has been having problems all week as well. Comcast broke something and as always is playing the defensive game instead of actually listening to the customers. The minute that FiOS is available in my area Im dumping Comcast. I had Suburban Cable before Comcast bought them out and only had interruptions with major storms. I cant rely on the service anymore. While I was calling in last week to inform them of my issue they tried to sell me on VOIP and I immediately told them how can I rely on my phone service being available 24x7 if my internet service isnt? |

| reply to sava700 said by sava700 :It appears to be effecting us in Virginia today my net is worse than dialup even on the Blast package..I called and they didn't know anything other that to say there was a issue yesterday and call us back tomorrow as it might clear up by then..wtH!? How have you come to this determination ?
Who else has concurred with you ?
What have you done to determine if the problem is local to you rather than a general and more widespread issue ?
I suspect that there would already be many more posts here from Virginians if this were so.. |

Heck, I've seen the explanation and even I don't understand it completely. Then again, I am not a network engineer. Care to share ? And something other than the generic "routing issue" ? |

| reply to shaggy010 said by shaggy010 :]I guess you've never heard of Crisis Management (CM)? The companies I have worked for in the past and present have always had a CM department. While the Ops crew (me) was busy repairing a major fault, CM was busy notifying our customers. The customers were never kept out of the loop and were fully aware. ComCrap is obviously quite the opposite. 'They' are working on it, who knows what 'they' are 'working' on and they never, ever have a ETR. The IVRs were updated to reflect the outage. While internally there may be an ETR, the problem with sharing that is that in creates an expectation that may not be met due to unforeseen circumstances, creating two calls when there may have only been 1.
People really did care that there was a problem and it was unfortunate that it went on as long as it did.
I wonder, though, what kind of explanation of the outage would suffice for both technical and non-technical people? Heck, I've seen the explanation and even I don't understand it completely. Then again, I am not a network engineer. -- "I try to make everyone's day a little more surreal." -Calvin |
