Rahway NJ reporting in: same problems, since 7am this morning.

This is a more extreme expression of intermittent problems for the past 10 days or so.

same here in Columbia pa some site don't work some do but load slow. Google works fine as allways. AIM don't work but MSN yahoo and myspa e messengers and skype work. I thought it was a messup on my end for I was doing some network reconfigurations last night but after checking everything I realized it was craptastic.

Yes, trouble in Central Jersey for me. Strange thing is, I can ping sites fine, but can't reach them with HTTP, so it might be Comcast trying to do "Traffic Shaping" and failing miserably.
I agree. In PA and having similar issues and have for some time. They didn't want to admit that's what it was, but when I got a tech on hand he admitted they had to undo the "filters" placed on my connection.

Hello Michael_, Thank you for contacting Comcast Live Chat Support. My name is Ning. Please give me one moment to review your information.

Ning>
Good morning, Michael! I apologize for this. There is a known DNS issue at Comcast, which is affecting your access to websites and is currently being worked on. There is no estimated time of resolution as of yet, however, please be assured that the issue is being investigated and worked on for resolution the soonest possible time. You may try again later on today.

Michael_>
really all these bright people and they have no ETA on solution? 12 hours ? 24 hours? or are they simply too arrogant to care?

Michael_>
give me an assurance then ?

Ning>
The DNS outage started early today and is still being worked on.The team working on this is focusing on the issue and conduting further investigations on it to get this issue resolved the soonest possible time.

Ning>
Ooppss..sorry for the typo, I meant, conducting..

Michael_>
Right now you have thousands of customers wasting their time trying to boot router, reboot modems , reroute wiring and nowhere - exAMPLE ON THE COMCOST NEWS CHANNEL , do you have a single alert or notice that there is an issue. You have provided no assurance at all simply promises which are backed by nothing.

Michael_>
if you charge premium price - we expect premium customer service....which includes providing some ETA , not a guarenntee, but an estimate.

Michael_>
BTW , this actually started last night @ 8:30 PM.

Michael_>
Verizon's up so it's not external DNS

Ning>
There should be an alert or notice in place soon via phone. I wish I can provide you an ETA on this, however,I have not been given information on any ETA for this issue. If you wish to reference this issue, you may use this ticket number posted on our message board: ND004347504, no further details are provided for me to give out to you. Comcast knows how this is affecting a lot of customers and the people involved in resolving this issue are working on the issue now so you can go back to surfing the internet. I guess, you can be assured that this issue will need to be taken cared of the soonest possible time as Comcast would not want to lose a lot of customers because of this.

Ning>
There are some areas where DNS is an issue and some areas may have a possible routing issue.

Ning>
If you are able to resolve the DNS, then your connection must be experiencing a routing issue.

Michael_>
How can I be assured? What is the mechanism of assurance?

Ning>
We are currently gather some information and samples on this issue. Can I get you to please provide me with some information that will help to resolve the issue sooner?

Michael_>
No dude - read your own message boards - others in SEPA are reporting Verizon is NOT experiencing DNS issue - so stop with the blame the customer routine - it's pathetic.

Michael_>
Don't try t do diagnostics without asking followup questions LOL.

Michael_>
what's the assurance - how's that work ?

Michael_>
what's the assurance - how's that work?

Michael_>
what's the assurance - how's that work?

Ning>
What do you want me to say, Michael? I can assure you that this issue will be resolved since people from the network team are working on the problem.

Michael_>
That's a statement not an assurance. An assurance is a show of evidence - what you are offering is an "assumption".

Ning>
I have given you a ticket number that is associated with the issue and a proof that the network team has identified this issue as a Comcast-related problem and which is now being worked on.

Ning>
This is not an assumption as this is already taking place at the moment.

Michael_>
who's working on it and where are they located , first name and city, state?

Michael_>
this is tonight's powerball winner 01,07,08,15,22,28 powerbal 22.

Michael_>
is that proff I am going to win it?

Ning>
I am sorry, what you are asking for are not provided here for me. The network team is comprised of several people and their names are not provided as well as the place where it is taking place.

Michael_>
so you don't know - you are assumption based on vague statements

Michael_>
stop using the word assurance - misuse of the Engish language by tech support re tee's me off. just say "Je'assume" - and you can say "Goodnight , Gracie"

Ning>
I am not making an assumption, Michael. The information you are asking is not available for me here or to any agents on the floor. The problem exists and there is a message posted on our board with the ticket number, ND004347504, that has been identified as a Comcast-related problem and is currently being worked on.

Michael_>
lessee - you say you offer evidence but cannot give any details..............do you seriously how vapid that sounds?

Michael_>
say "goodnight", gracie

Ning>
I am sorry, if you have nothing else to inquire, I may as well disemminate the information to customers having the same issue as you are.

Ning>

hey dude for pa,
the support tech must be wrong anyway about dns issues. all nslookups from command line are working just fine. its the trace routes that fail. so it is a path/route problem, not dns.

That's not even accurate. It's not a DNS issue since domains are resolving correctly. It's the HTTP traffic that's being blocked.

For example, www.cnet.com doesn't work, but doing an nslookup on it gives me 216.239.122.220 which is correct, yet the page still fails to load.

BTW it seems completely random as to what works and what doesn't. Comcast's own www.comcast.net page isn't working, but publish.comcast.net and www.comcast.com does.

I agree this is not a dns issue. Names resolve fine here too but tracert's time out pretty far into the trace (I can get out of comcast's network fine).

Another Philly person who has essentially wasted a couple hours resetting the modem, router, doing a direct connect of one of my laptops to the modem, etc., this morning. Am posting from my Verizon DSL laptop that I use as a backup to Comcast. As I fumbled through various troubleshooting things, it did appear to be DNS related as I was finally able to get to a few sites like google and even comcast.net (main page), but little else.

I always pop by here when I'm having issues just to check and thank goodness for this thread!

EDIT - I see from some responses that came just before I posted that it might be a http filtering problem. Ah well... I wouldn't be surprised considering some of the press about Comcast doing reconfiguring, including to handle P2P.

Spoke to a customer service agent at 11:00 am said problem started for NJ and pa at 1:00 in the morning. She had no ETA
of when the problem will be resolved. We should all ask for credit to our monthly bill . Maybe this will give them some
impetus to correct their problems quickly.

How can they have such a large outage for so long and know so little

Originally thought to be a backbone issue as that did go down but is now back up and still having issues in the PA/DE markets. Engineers from the backbone, CRAN and local markets are working on the issue, no ETR.
