| reply to blachole Re: [Connectivity] connection problems
It's not just HTTP. It's other protocols as well. ICMP gets through without issue, but then various higher level protocols break. I highly doubt it is related to a transit provider (e.g. Level3 or AT&T). If there were isolation problems such that Comcast was unable to reach certain Autonomous Systems, ICMP (e.g. ping) would not get through either. This is most likely not a BGP routing issue but some sort of policy routing that is breaking certain higher level protocols. |

| reply to PBrain I doesn't necessarily have to be a Comcast issue. IP traffic travels through a lot of hops and if a major backbone is down than it's not necessarily an issue with Comcast.
However, the problems seem to be in a rather small area within the Philadelphia area, which makes me assume that no backbone of core router is involved and that it is a Comcast-only problem, otherwise we would have seen a lot more reported issues across the country. We shall see. |

@comcast.net | Running a tracert of a few various websites yields connectivity issues at hops containing level3.net and att.net.
It's an issue with these hops. |

| reply to RedHOT Same here. Right at ~ 2pm EDT, everything froze and now for the very first time today, I am now getting updates on my browser status bar without a connection error message (e.g., weather updates) and I can get into my usual sites. Am also now able to stream one of my internet radio channels. Am crossing fingers that we are fixed. |

It's quite funny to me that my bridged SprintPCS connection was actually working FASTER than Comcast was! (working period..)
Maybe they were installing a new P2P filter |

Comcast receives a boatload of money from its subs, it's a huge company. There should be a contingency plan in place, or at least some method to notify its customers that the network is down. |

There should be a contingency plan in place, or at least some method to notify its customers that the network is down. ok so it's a big deal to you.. if your accessing those 1000+ machines is so important, what is *your* contingency plan for a network outage?
if access is such a big deal to you, certainly relying on a single provider for access (i.e. single point of failure) then complaining when that single provider is down or having problems is foolish IMO.
I've worked in the cable, telco and electric distribution fields, one thing I can tell you is that they all suffer from the same lack of communication.. it has been my experience in all three fields that the #1 priority is to fix and or reroute around the problem.. that is the primary focus.. for announcing a problem, in most cases the problem is fixed before the knowledge of the outage gets to the senior management folk who make the decision to notify about the outage.
to you and others it may suck - yes it would be nice to know.. unfortunately timely outage reporting is not in the corporate mindset, has never been and most likely will always be that way. |
