How good is Wow with matching competitor deals?

I was going to switch to Time Warner but I don't have to time to schedule them to come out when I can be home. Still I'll take a vaction day just to save 20 a month. They are offering more than what I currently have for a 20 dollar price difference. I've been with WOW for over a year and the company they bought out for 4+.
If so what should I say when I call them, just that Time Warner has a better offer and asking if I can get a better deal through them before I switch?

call the cancellation department and say that time warner is offering so and so for 20 off, guaranteed for x amount of months (say at least 18 months, even if its less).

just say you'd like to stay with WOW, but they need to match that stuff, or better.

usually they'll offer you something close to that or at that savings

I've had pretty good luck getting my price lowered when my price lock is over. It won't hurt to call them up and see what they say.

WOW can't match Direct TV in price or number of channels.

Number of channels, no, price, yes. I built a DTV system and it will cost more than WOW does for me currently. I even called them up, the guy on the phone even said that he couldn't beat the price I was paying.

They are very good when ask to cancel or for retentions I do it every year, and get a big discount when I tell them comcast is way cheaper.

I don't care at all about either of those channels, and out of the 90 that DTV has there are only a few that WOW doesn't have that I want. So at this time I can't justify the paying a fair amount more per month for those few extra channels.

To each their own.

It's been my experience that yes, WOW tries very hard to keep customers. I recently left them for Insight/RoadRunner's 15 meg service and WOW made me an incredible offer to stay but unless/until they match 15 megs, I won't switch back.

On the other hand, when I had Insight/RoadRunner a long time ago and said I was switching to WOW the only thing the CSR said was to make sure I dropped off the equipment or I'd get billed for it.

Almost commical. For some reason, they think by offering me 120.00 services for what I'm paying CC now 72.00 for, then 99 next year, they can "win" me back. They are not serious trying to win anyone back at least in my area.

What kind of deal did WOW offer you? I'm thinking of switching unless they can lower my price quite a bit.

WOW offered me the "same" stuff for 120. Even if I was paying 100 for CC, it would be a no brainer. CC wins hands down.

My brother would love to pay $120 or $72 for his Comcast bill. He pays around $130 for HD Cable, Phone and Internet. Comcast would not even budge to lower it when he called a few days ago. Comcast is going to lose a lot of people if WOW or AT&T expands out in his area (Romeo).

interesting...i've been with wow for almost 4 years, first switching my tv and internet from dish network and at&t dsl, then adding my phones (also at&t). comcast doesn't even come close in price and dtv doesn't seem to be a good deal after the initial discounts expire, not to mention what i save with two phone lines. additionally, their customer service is excellent, which is a rarity these days.

Yeah, I know lots of people would like to pay less. I was already thinking of switching to CC's HSI but the porch spammer won me over. The price is one thing, but the service. 24 hrs from sale to connect. The phone took longer (understandable w/porting requests) but the promotion was short lived. A guy at work tried to get it 3 weeks after I got hooked up and they told him that promotion was over. However, a current Comcast customer (at work also) called CC. Guess he was paying close to 200 bucks (he had max everything) is now down to 130.00. CC did give another guy a deal jumping ship from DISH to them, not as good but still 100 bucks a month for everything he wanted. WOW isn't that bad of a provider but they have some issues that they never seem to shake. They seem to be about 12-18months behind everyone else. They don't/won't support customer owned modems when you want a speed boost (big reason I left) and they have speed issues even on the tiers they do offer. I'm a happy camper for the next 2 years if anything so who knows. It's all up to WOW and what they want to do (or can). Oh, also, when I called up CC and asked for a HD box w/HDMI output (I had the HD package added when I got the service), they had one out that afternoon. The initial install guy picked up the wrong box so I just had composite outputs and wanted HDMI for the TV.
