GPS Stopped Acquiring

GPS Quest ~ 4 years old

Worked fine 10 days ago. Won't acquire diddly-poop today.

Downloaded latest software - no Change
Master Reset - No Change
Googled some for answers - nothing significant
Email to Garmin Support - Awaiting response

Looking for ideas/hints as to what might be wrong. It seems like a hardware failure . The unit tells the correct time and is otherwise functional.

outside...wide open sky. No trees, no buildings, no obstructions. It's hard to describe the visual on the display, but the device is not seeming to even try to acquire (no spinning icons that would indicate it's trying).

I left it outside in the open today for about an hour and nothing happened.

Problem sort of solved.

I purchased an External Antenna. It can now acquire satellites.

FYI: Garmin tech support was rather poor in this case. They basically suggested upgrading software and a hard reset. When that didn't do the trick, they "offered" to investigate for $150 (out of warranty). I thought that was rather steep and was hoping they would have provided far better support and troubleshooting than that. I went to a GPS site/forum and a user there suggested that it was likely an internal failure/problem with the built-in, flip up antenna. So I bought a $20 antenna to give it a shot since you can basically get a new GPS for $150 range with pretty good capabilities/features. New antenna arrived today; plugged it in...problem solved.
