Telephone wiring - my design - will it work? No NID.

My house is 13years old and seem sto have a VERY simple wiring scheme. Will this design work?

And no new school demarc (NID) anywhere with no jacks.

Will DSL work over this? The phone # check on the teksavvy website says that it will.

blocks similar to something like this

Re: Do you need a demarc?

Thats the demarc.
Its just older style, like we have.
Newer ones have plugs, i believe, but its all the same in the end.
Its where the outside line turns into inside lines.

Yes, it should work fine.

Request that the installer install a demarc, though. Bell must give you one (CRTC mandated) for free, or pay for your internal wiring repairs (their choice).

I can find the appropriate CRTC decision detailing this... I had to argue with Bell to get a demarc installed for free, ended up calling the CRTC, the CRTC gave me the magic number to talk with people with a clue at Bell (and, of course, advised me I was correct), and it was fixed (although the installer had no demarcs and just installed a junction box, *sigh*).

Without a demarc, isolating your internal wiring as an issue is difficult (impossible, really). This means you risk being billed by Nexxia for repairs (not that they really do this much, but why risk it? and why take 3-5 days to find out you will still need to fix the problem yourself anyways?)

You probably have a (small) 66 block. You could buy a punchdown tool for that if you want to modify it, but again, why bother? If you want to scare the installer (okay, make the installer happy), put in a bix block.

Do I really need to though? Can I just stick with my current simple wiring? My internal block has a second set of unused connection points which could be used to run wires solely for the DSL phone jack.

I have a demarc like yours outside the house and have not had any problems.

Demarc
Here's ours. Lol
And yes.. its the first thing inside the house. There is nothing else from bell. There's even a "Don't touch! call bell for service' tag thing on it. (its off the picture, attached to the ground wire on the left)

A couple of choices. First install a POTS splitter at the demarc
1. Run filtered through the regular red/green pair and run a twisted pair directly to the DSL modem (which BTW should be as close as possible to the demarc.) -or-
2. Run filtered through the regular red/green pair and unfiltered DSL through the secondary yellow/black pair. Then install a duplex RJ-11 where the DSL modem is located wired so that one jack has red/green active and the other (for the DSL modem) has yellow/black active.

Sure. A pushdown block like that is fairly standard from ~20 years ago.

But first things first. If you live close enough to the CO/RSLAM to get a good DSL signal then the quality of the demarc and the rest of your inside wiring is not all that important. There is no need to mess with it if it is not nevessasry. OTOH if you are on a marginal line then your best bet is to wire the DSL modem as close to the demarc as possible, then run Ethernet to your PC (or use WiFi.)

A classic!

That's an old 66 Block.

All you need is the right termination tool and you are ready to go. Terminate a pair to the block, and crimp an rj11 connector to the other end.

Go ahead.

It's fine. Just make sure your terminations are solid. I can't recall off the top of my head, but the old 66 blocks may have required 22 AWG wire, which typically was the gauge coming inside your house from the outside plant. You may run into problems if using a cat5e cable for wire pairs, since they are 24 AWG (smaller diameter).

Take a picture of your "demarc/NID" and post it here.

It is not essential. Try ordinary DSL filters. Post your stats here. Then we can offer suggestions.

It should work fine, just make sure to filter your phones.

Why do I need filters on every phone? I have a single filter running on CABLE X?
