For earbuds try the Shure 210's. You can find them for 104 or less. If you can find one buy a Toshia gigabeat F40 or F60, and rockbox it.
The F40 and F60's are really cheap now,that is if you can find one.
I'd avoid the Zune if you like to be in control of your music! You can't use Win Explorer or make directories.
Creative is alright if you want to limit the codecs you can use. Be sure to read their forums before you buy anything from them.
