Charging Me To Pickup Equipment?

I bought a cable modem yesterday because I was tired of the $5 per month raping that suddenlink was charging me to lease an old surboard 4101 modem.

I called and got the new one provisioned today, everything worked out, and it synced up right away. Then, I was told that I would be charged $9.99 for someone to come and pick up the modem, or I could turn it in myself. Unfortunately, the nearest office is in Beckley WV, and I live roughly 40 miles from that office.

So no matter which I go about it, either allowing them to come pick it up, or turning it in myself, I am out $10. And I was told that until I turned it in, I would continue to be charged the $5.00 rental fee.

Is suddenlink broke? Why do they feel the need to charge this to their customers when their trucks drive back and forth in front of my house a few times each day?

A little over a month ago I dropped my cable TV service because I just couldn't keep reading about DirecTv and the plethora of HD channels they have. I made the switch to DirecTv, and subscribed to their premiere package along with DVR and HD service. If there was an alternate ISP here, (aside from dial-up), I would make the switch in a heartbeat...especially now.

Give the modem to someone in a SL truck, they will get 8 bucks commission for turning in the modem so they will be glad to take it off your hands. You could always mail it in.

A government large enough to provide you with everything, is also large enough to take everything away.
