A solution to drive-by voters

We all get PO'd when we get a drive-by vote by someone who has never posted anything to the DI forum much less to the entire site.

I would like to suggest that the system prevent my ignored users from voting on my images. It won't stop drive-by voting but I can make sure that it only happens once.

Users who vote "poor" on images for no good reason.

Object. Just cause everyone besides one thinks it's amazing doesn't mean it's amazing to every last person on the planet.

Sign. IMO if they vote poor they should at least give a reason or some info on how they think the image could be improved.

Or better yet, giving each individual the power to delete such votes/comments from their own gallery would be a really nice feature addition. Both Pbase and Flickr offer this feature to enable the user to simply delete any "drive by" comments.

Right.

And if I disagree with what that person has to say, I can ignore them.

And if I choose to ignore that person, they don't need to vote on my photos.

Maybe a better idea would be to remove "poor" as a choice.

Having said that, does it really matter that some bonehead voted "poor"? If all the other votes were good (as your screenie shows), all he did was make himself look like an ass.

Bad votes eliminate your chance of getting on the home page.

Disable voting on your pictures is one option. Not posting any pictures at all is another. Or maybe just learn to deal with the idea that not everyone is going to think that your pictures are "Amazing!".

I agree that this kind of "poor" rating can be annoying when all others are not and when someone has just dropped in. I make it a habit on those images that have had that occur to first make sure if the person posting is or isn't active on the site, not just the DI Forum. I then check the type of thing they write as to if they just have a negative attitude, etc. Having done diligent and depending upon what I've found, I will often IM the person a question as to what they feel was missing or could be improved upon in my image? Very seldom have I gotten answers, but when I have, I have quite often found that the person doing the rating has a point.

This is not a solution, but it is an option.

The vote descriptions are already slanted towards the positive.

poor
average
good
excellent
amazing

"Average" should be the middle choice of the 5, it seems to me. Eliminating "poor" votes makes "average" the lowest rating possible.

Other than they had disagreements with a particular user in some other forum and the poor vote is just a "get back" vote
