join:2004-06-30 | NIS 2008 Windows File Scan - What is it?
In the history section (view history) of NIS 2008 there are a number of entries for Windows File Scan Results. This is different from a Quick Scan or a Full System Scan. Does anybody know what this is? Usually there no more than 18 files scanned. |

@csc.com | reply to starfish8 Try downloading a file from web site in Internet Explorer then check the Norton log - I think you will find Norton does a full scan of downloaded files before they are written to disk |

| reply to starfish8 NIS 2008 does three scans, a full system scan is done by you or Scheduled Tasks. A quick scan is done at startup or when norton has updated the Definitions and then there is a windows file scan, this is just norton scanning files as they are used to make sure they are clean. I get those listings too. |

| reply to starfish8 UPdate, here is something strange about this file scan. on my Windows Xp home pc it scans every now and again with this listing called Windows file scan in the scan logs. but on my windows xp pro pc it doesn't do this type of scan. just the Quick Scan or a Full System Scan. I check the settings on both pcs and they are set the same. yet one does this Windows File scan and the other doesn't ?
I am not sure why now. |

| reply to starfish8 Just a feature that intermitently scans a set of files [usually I find when using Outlook with unique attachments]

NOTE: I have shown the logs to Symantec since first noticing 2 years ago and have been advised that it's nothing more than a record of routine advanced scanning written into the program.
IM me if you want more details.

There were new entries for Windows File Scan in the log. So that appears to be it. Mystery solved. |

I first reported this to my Symantec contacts long ago and can tell you that it's normal activity.
I began researching this with Symantec way back in 2005 - see: »[Word] 2003 Version info need
